While gamers and movie fans chase bigger and faster displays for their computers, graphic artists have a much different concern: keeping colors as true-to-life as possible.  The Japanese manufacturer Eizo tailored a display specifically to that need with its latest LCD display, the ColorEdge CG301W 30-inch monitor.

Eizo claims the CG301W can display 97 percent of the Adobe color gamut, meaning only 3 percent of the colors in an Adobe RGB photograph are outside the range of what it can reproduce. The company also factory-adjusts the gamma settings off the production line, and the monitor comes with built-in 12-bit color calibration, although the measurement device needed isn’t actually bundled with the monitor. There’s even a hood for keeping outside light from interfering with the view.

Resolution of 2560 x 1600 makes it possible to display one giant desktop, or two at a time, side-by-side without a bezel in between, using dual DVI-D inputs. Other stats include a 850:1 contrast ratio, 260 cd/m2 brightness, 178-degree viewing angle and 6ms midtone response time.

Eizo hasn’t yet released pricing details or a release date for the CG301W, but expect to pay a pretty penny, based on the prices of the company’s other specialialty monitors. The smaller 22-inch CG221 runs for around $5,000.
