LEGO brings the Ghostbusters’ Ecto-1 Cadillac to life in an all-new commemorative set

When I think of classic movie cars, the first three to pop into my head are the Bullitt Mustang, Back to the Future’s Delorean, and the Ghostbusters’ “Ecto-1”1959 Cadillac.

As a lover of the station wagon, the Ecto-1 has a special place in my heart. So today, nothing could have made me happier than hearing LEGO, aka the building blocks of my childhood, has unveiled a new set for 2014 that pays tribute to the beyond-cool car.

The new LEGO set includes the famous Caddy wagon, complete with everything you will need to start, well, busting ghosts. LEGO has also created versions of Venkmann, Stanz, Spengler and Zeddemore. The 508-piece set includes instructions and behind-the-scenes details about the film.

The awesome set will be released in June, and will burn a $50 hole in your wallet, which is a fair price for a collection of plastic blocks that is surely fated to become a collectible.

The Ecto-1 kit is keeping with LEGO’s trend of paying tribute to classics. The company released a sweet version of Dr. Emmet Brown’s Delorean. Then followed it up this year with the Ghostbusters release in addition to a Star Wars kit to celebrate the new animated series “Star Wars Rebels”.

There is nothing better than LEGOs. Let’s face it; everyone likes them. And the unity between the classic blocks and ‘80s movies seems pretty much perfect to me.

The only thing that would be better would be a Ferris Bueller LEGO set. Of course, I am a bit biased because that kit would have to include the ‘63 Ferrari Modena Spyder California, which is one of my dream cars.

The front three-quarter view of a 2022 Rivian against a rocky backdrop.

Rivian has finally unveiled the R2, its long-awaited attempt at a more affordable electric SUV. The new vehicle may not be available just yet, but fans of Rivian's design aesthetics and feature set are already looking forward to being able to order the new car. The R2 is targeted at being a more affordable take on the electric SUV and will sit alongside the flagship-tier R1S.

Let's get this out of the way right now: The R1S is most likely going to be a better vehicle than the R2. Rivian isn't replacing the R1S with the R2 — it's releasing the R2 as a more affordable alternative, and there will be some compromises when buying the R2 over the R1S.

Don’t let the gimmicks fool you. The Ioniq 5 N is a serious track car
2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N drifting.

We’re finally getting to the fun part of automakers’ methodical quest to replicate their lineups with electric cars.

Performance versions of ordinary cars have been a staple of the auto industry for decades. But while we’ve already seen some variants of EVs boasting more power and more impressive stats — think Tesla Model S Plaid or Lucid Air Sapphire — the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is the first to truly apply that format to an EV.
