Toshiba announces 64GB, 128GB TransMemory Pro USB 3.0 flash drives

Toshiba, a company known for making items such as home theater gear, notebooks, and hard drives, has just announced a new pair of high-capacity flash drives.

Dubbed TransMemory Pro, Toshiba’s latest USB 3.0 ships in one of two storage capacities: 64GB and 128GB. Though Toshiba offers flash drives smaller than these, none of their smaller USB flash storage offerings are of the TransMemory Pro variety.

Toshiba’s TransMemory Pro sticks include integrated security software, as well as encrypted password protection. And as for read and write data transfer rates, they top out at 222MB per second and 205MB per second, respectively.

The Toshiba TransMemory Pro’s biggest problem could very well be price. Toshiba is selling them directly from their site for $129.99 for the 64GB model, and $199.99 for the 128GB version. Meanwhile, when we searched for 128GB USB 3.0 flash drives on Newegg, we were able to find them for much cheaper. We found plenty of 64GB USB 3.0 flash drives for under $50, and a bunch of 128GB USB 3.0 flash drives for well under $100.

With that in mind, it’ll be interesting to see whether these TransMemory Pro sticks will get a substantial price cut in short order.
