It’s undeniable that the emergence of cloud storage and cloud computing will continue unabated and is coming on in full force. Aside from cloud storage services like Dropbox and the like, traditional storage makers like Western Digital have been getting in on the game as well, offering cloud storage services in conjunction with their hardware-based storage options. The latest such option comes in the form of the Western Digital My Cloud EX2 NAS enclosure, which the company just announced today.
The Western Digital My Cloud EX2 is powered by a 1.2GHz processor and 512MB of RAM. Around back, you’ll find Gigabit Ethernet connectivity, a pair of USB 3.0 ports and a Kensington lock slot. Though the Western Digital My Cloud EX2 ships with RAID 1 already set up, you can set your drives up in RAID 0, JBOD as well as spanning modes. You can also opt to get the My Cloud EX2 completely empty, or stuff it with 4TB, 6TB or 8TB of storage.
You can manage your My Cloud EX2 via a desktop-based My Cloud app for Windows or Mac, though there’s a mobile version as well. Other third-party apps integrated with the Western Digital My Cloud EX2 include aMule, a P2P file transfer program, SqueezeCenter, a streaming audio server app, WordPress, and more.
You can snag the barebones Western Digital My Cloud EX2 for $199.99. Outfitting it with 4TB of storage built in will set you back $369.99. Upping that to 6TB drives the price northward to $469.99, while opting for 8TB tacks on another $100 to the price tag ($569.99).
