Nokia N96 Finally Touches Down in U.S.

Following up on promises made this summer, Nokia officially gave word on Monday that its flagship N96 smart phone is available in the United States. Though American consumers who have been drooling over the hot Finnish phone will be able to get their hands on it without any import shenanigans, the price tag on the new phone will keep it in firmly in the hands of the elite.

Key features on the N96 include a 2.8-inch display, 16GB of internal memory, a 5-megapixel camera, GPS, and dual sliding design. It’s also compatible with American 3G HSDPA networks in the 850 and 1900 MHz range, such as AT&T.

The cost on the do-it-all phone makes the first-generation iPhone look cheap: $895. Nokia will offer it in its flagship stores in Chicago and New York, along with a handful of independent retailers, and online.

Apple raised some eyebrows late last year when the company revealed that it actively works with law enforcement officials in cases involving the misuse of its object tracker. According to Forbes, the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) recently used an AirTag for surveillance in a case that potentially had an illicit narcotics manufacturing angle. Citing an official search warrant, the report notes that border agents intercepted a package coming in from China that contained a pill press machine used to turn chemical powders into a pill.

The Nothing Phone 2 will be coming to the U.S. this year, CEO Carl Pei said today. The company previously launched its first entry into the smartphone market in Europe and Asia due to resource constraints.

“We decided to make the U.S. our No. 1 priority in terms of markets,” CEO Carl Pei said in an interview with Inverse. “We couldn't do it earlier because we were only in our second year and our hands were tied building the team as we were building the products. Now as we're on a more solid footing, we can take a step forward.”
