USB-Powered 7-Inch Mimo Monitors Hit U.S.

And, unlike a traditional desktop display, you don’t need a dual-head graphics card to use the display: the 710 and 740 run right off any available USB 2.0 port.

The displays offer a 7-inch 800 by 480-pixel display that can pivot between portrait and landscape orientations, weigh just 1.3 pounds, and work with Windows XP/Vista as well as Mac OS X. The Mimo UM-710 sports 350 cd/m² of brightness and a 400:1 contrast ratio, while the UM740 boasts the same specs but adds touchscreen functionality, a microphone input and audio in/passthrough (think Web cams), along with a second USB 2.0 connection for pulling extra juice from under-powered USB systems.

The UM-710 is prices at $129.99, while the UM-740 is priced at $199.99—although they’re backordered at the moment, Mimo Monitors is offering free shipping in the United States.

iMac 27-inch: Everything we know about Apple’s larger, more powerful iMac
Apple iMac Pro News

When Apple killed off the iMac Pro and then completely removed the 27-inch iMac from its online store, we thought that was the end of the road for the larger all-in-one computer. Right now, Apple only sells one size of iMac: the smaller 24-inch version. But what about that gaping hole in the iMac lineup previously occupied by the 27-inch model?

It could be that Apple decides to leave this device dead and buried and instead hopes that the Mac Studio and Studio Display scratch that itch -- that's certainly what sources at 9to5Mac have contended. But there are tantalizing clues that Apple is considering offering a larger iMac with a greater level of performance than the 24-inch iMac. Regardless of whether this is branded an iMac Pro or an iMac, here's everything we know about the next high-end all-in-one from Apple.

Apple's John Ternus stands next to an image of the 15-inch MacBook Air at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June 2023.

When Apple launched the 15-inch MacBook Air at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), it seemed like there wasn’t too much separating it from its 13-inch sibling. Yet a new set of tests has shown that the larger model pulls ahead in some key ways, making it a much more attractive purchase if you want maximum performance in a slimline laptop.

The testing was conducted by YouTuber Max Tech, who pitted the 15-inch MacBook Air against Apple’s smaller 13-inch version. Both laptops had the M2 chip and 256GB of storage, so you might think the only difference would be found in the size of the displays. Yet that’s not how the testing played out at all.

The 15-inch MacBook Air repeats one of Apple’s worst mistakes
15-inch MacBook Air shown at WWDC 2023.

The 15-inch MacBook Air may be a new chapter for Apple’s thin and light laptop, but it seems to be repeating a disappointing mistake that we’ve seen way too often in the company’s products. If you want to configure it with the fastest SSD possible without breaking the bank, we’ve got some bad news.

According to a video posted by the tech YouTubers at Max Tech, the base model of the 15-inch MacBook Air only comes with a single NAND chip for its onboard SSD storage, rather than the two chips used in the past. It’s a regrettable decision that nevertheless mirrors practically every other Mac that Apple has released recently.
