Gateway Debuts Small, High-Def TC Notebooks

Computer maker Gateway—now a subsidiary of Acer—has announced its new TC series of notebook computers, which bring design elements from its MC and MD series to a smaller form-factor…while keeping the HD-friendly display and budget-conscious pricing. WIth the TC series, Gateway hopes to hit the sweet spot between easy portability and a mainstream media and computing notebook.

"We’ve taken the best of our incredibly popular MC and MD lines and made it even more compact and lightweight in the TC Series," said Acer America senior product marketing manager Ray Sawall, in a statement. "The result is the perfect marriage of useful features and compact design punctuated with an eye-catching style."

The first two systems in the TC series are the TC7306 and TC7307: both sport a 14-inch 1,366 by 768-pixel display, a 2 GHz Intel Pentium Dual-Core T4200 processors, 4 GB of RAM, and Intel GMA 4500M graphics, an 8× dual layer DVD burner, a 1.3 megapixel Webcam, 5-in-1 media card reader, 3 USB 2.0 ports, gigabit Ethernet, and 802.11b/g/draft-n Wi-Fi wireless networking. The units also sport Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit and illuminated multimedia touch controls for accessing favorite entertainment options. The units are available now in burgundy and black at selected U.S. retailers with suggested prices starting at $649.99.

Gateway says future configurations in the TC series will be available with Intel Core 2 Duo processors, HDMI output, optional Blu-ray drives, Nvidia GeForce 9300M graphics controllers, and up to 500 GB of onboard storage.
