Caldo wants to fix study stress by combining learning games with guided breathing

Your study buddy just got a lot more chill, and he happens to be a sloth.

If you’re a student, you probably have one app for studying and another for calming your nerves. Switching between the two every time stress kicks in gets old fast. Yellow Lion is tackling this problem with Caldo, a new iOS app that mixes adaptive learning games with guided breathing, so you can do both at once.

What can you do with Caldo?

You get access to over 50 learning games covering a range of subjects. You don’t pay anything to get started, so you can start playing right away.

The standout feature is Caldo AI. Feed it your notes or textbooks, and it will turn them into games, adding a breathing exercise to each round. Get a question wrong, and you can tap the Enlighten button to see a hint, some background, and where the information comes from, instead of just the answer.

Caldo, a meditating sloth with a relaxed, friendly personality and a good sense of humor, guides you through it all. I can’t think of a better mascot for an app that wants you to slow down.

Why does this matter for students?

Test stress affects more students than you might expect. After pooling data from 67 studies, researchers found that nearly half of students (48.43%) deal with measurable exam anxiety. Other research shows mindfulness can sharpen focus, help working memory, and ease test anxiety.

According to Yellow Lion, no other app has placed these calming tools inside the study session before. If you have ever stared blankly at your notes the night before an exam and got more stressed by the minute, Caldo might be worth a try.

Smartphone-connected drinking water safety sensor Featured

What if checking your drinking water for dangerous chemicals were as simple as plugging a tiny gadget into your smartphone? Researchers in Japan have developed a compact sensor that could make that possible, potentially bringing sophisticated water contamination testing out of expensive laboratories and into people's hands.

Scientists at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) have created a portable device capable of detecting extremely low concentrations of PFAS, commonly known as "forever chemicals." The findings were published in the journal Biosensors and Bioelectronics, which demonstrate how an inexpensive sensor and a smartphone could make identifying potentially harmful chemicals in water a lot easier.

Samsung might have a Galaxy Z Fold 9 for everyone, and I’m losing count
Samsung's 2027 foldable lineup is getting packed
Electronics, Speaker, Mobile Phone

Samsung's foldable lineup could be getting pretty crowded next year. We're already expecting successors to the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and the Galaxy Z Flip 8, while fresh leaks hint that several more devices could be in the pipeline.

The expanded lineup might include a bigger fold, a potentially cheaper alternative, and even something that slides rather than folds. According to a new leak, Samsung is currently testing two different versions of an additional wide-format Galaxy Z Fold 9. That's not all, Samsung's foldable plans could feature a grand total of six models, which is kind of in line with earlier reports.
