SanDisk reveals a bunch of new Ultra II SSDs, which start at $80

Once upon a time, SSDs of all sizes were super-duper expensive. While that’s still often the case for higher-capacity drives like those that are in the 400GB and up range, smaller SSDs between 120GB and 320GB have become quite affordable compared to what they cost just a few years ago. SanDisk’s Ultra II line of SSDs, which the company just announced, are just the latest example of that.

SanDisk’s new Ultra II SSDs will come in one of four capacities: 120GB, 240GB, 480GB, and 960GB. Aside from claims of improved battery life for notebooks, SanDisk says that its Ultra II drives will read and write data at 550MBps, and 500MBps, respectively.

Getting an SSD is one thing, but what if you want to carry over your OS and all of your data from your current hard drive to one of these new units? Not to worry, SanDisk says, using an included copy of Apricorn’s EZ GIG IV software. EZ GIG IV will allegedly allow you to carry over your operating system, and any of your data that’s on your existing hard drive over to the Ultra II without much fuss.

You’ll also get copies of Trend Micro Antivirus+, and Absolute LoJack software. The former will protect you from online threats, while the latter claims to safeguard your data if your computer ever gets swiped. One of Absolute LoJack’s features lets you track down your stolen device, giving you its whereabouts. The SanDisk Ultra II SSDs also include a three-year warranty.

Now for the pricing breakdown. The 120GB version will cost you $79.99, whereas the next step up, which is the 240GB model, costs $114.99. The 480GB Ultra II will run you $219.99. Finally, there’s the big boy; the 960GB drive, which will carry an asking price of $429.99.

Though an exact release date for the Ultra II drives has not yet been revealed, SanDisk says that they’ll hit the market sometime in September.
