This dual-camera smartphone chuckles at water, ignores dust, and laughs at explosions

It’s been a long time coming, but major Android manufacturers have finally started to incorporate dust and water resistance into their handsets. Smartphone such as the Galaxy S5 and Xperia Z2 can now survive minor spills and dirt. However, all of these rugged smartphones pale in comparison to the Bartec Pixavi Impact X, which may be the toughest Android smartphone in existence.

For starters, the Impact X is IP68-certified, making it safe from dust and waterproof. It can also withstand up to a 2 joule crash into the ground from up to 2 meters. The 2-millimeter Gorilla Glass display was tailor-made for the Impact X and the device itself is unafraid of corrosion and great changes in temperature.

What truly sets the Impact X apart from the rest of the rugged phones out there are its IECEx and ATEX Zone 1 certifications. In other words, it is explosion-proof and suitable for hazardous areas. Additionally, if you turn the smartphone around, you’ll see something that’s rarely included on most smartphones: a dual-camera setup. According to Bartec, this setup allows for photos and videos to appear in landscape mode, regardless of the orientation of the handset. Both cameras are 8-megapixel shooters.

Decidedly midrange specifications round out the Imapct X. It has a 4.6-inch 800 x 480 IPS screen and runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. You’ll also find HSPA+ capabilities, as well as a 3,000mAh battery that should give the Impact X all-day battery life. The Impact X forgoes software navigational buttons in favor of physical ones. It also has a dedicated camera shutter button on its side.

There’s no word on when the Impact X will be available, but when it does arrive on the market, project manager Andreas Parr Bjørnsund told us that the BARTEC group will be the sole worldwide distributor of the handset. You can head to BARTEC’s website for further information on the Impact X.
