Vertu turns its attention to audio, launches classy V Speaker and V Headphone accessories

Vertu, the British brand famous for its luxury smartphones, has announced the Vertu Audio Collection, a pair of high-end audio products designed to work perfectly with your Vertu phone. The collection consists of two products, the V Speaker and the V Headphones. Naturally, these aren’t ordinary mobile accessories, thanks to Vertu using some very cool materials to build them, and a partnership with Bang & Olufsen.

The V Speaker is a wireless Bluetooth speaker which is hewn from a single piece of aircraft-grade aluminum, common only in upper-tier portable speakers. Two full-range drivers and a passive bass radiator are hidden behind a dual-diamond cut fascia, while the amp pushes out a claimed 6 watts per side. In a show of Vertu opulence, the buttons for switching the speaker on and adjusting the volume are covered in calf leather.

Battery life for the speaker is a claimed ten hours of music playback on a three-hour charge, and the Bluetooth connection supports aptX, allowing for CD quality sound from compatible devices. There’s also a 3.5mm Aux input if you don’t want to use a wireless connection. As expected, the V Speaker also offers an on board mic for hands-free calling.

The V Headphones are even more luxuriously produced. The over-the-ear, closed back headphones have also been made from a single piece of aluminum, while the ear cushions are made from memory foam and covered in British lambs leather. Designed to offer maximum comfort, the Vertu claims the V Headphones won’t have a vice-like grip on your head either. The headphones also feature an inline microphone and control piece.

Inside each ear cup is a 40mm neodymium driver designed so it sits parallel to your ear, and Bang & Olufsen has tuned the headphones to offer superior audio performance. Vertu did an incredible job tuning the speakers in its Signature Touch smartphone, one of the best sounding smartphones we’ve heard, so we’re keen to have a listen to this equipment.

If you’re already reaching for your wallet, it had best be suitably stuffed. These are Vertu products, and therefore on the expensive side — the very expensive side. The V Speaker costs from £400, or about $650, while the V Headphones start at £490, or around $800. They’re on sale today through Vertu boutiques and approved stores.
