2015 Ford Mustang RTR slides into SEMA with up to 725 sideways horsepower

What’s the best-looking sixth-generation Ford Mustang out there and why is it the RTR?

Ford Racing has officially unveiled the 2015 Mustang RTR at the 2014 SEMA Show, and the car’s subtle, yet mean styling enhancements hint at the substantial upgrades that lurk under the pony car’s bulbous hood.

Developed in part by professional drifter Vaughn Gittin Jr., the RTR is offered in two stages.

Spec 1 brings all the cosmetic alterations to the party, which include spoilers front and back, a rear diffuser with side splitters, pin striping, and a full RTR front grill with integrated lighting. Three new styles of RTR wheels are also available.

Spec 2 is where the muscle comes in, as upgrades like adjustable dampers, sway bars, lowering springs, an RTR cold air intake, RTR Magnaflow exhaust, supercharger options and RTR in-house tuning are available.

Performance enhancements can be applied to the V6, 2.3-liter EcoBoost, and 5.0-liter V8 engines, with up to 725 horsepower being offered in range-topping form.

“The all-new platform has very easily allowed us to mesh RTR’s tastefully-aggressive styling and modified performance to offer our most capable, best-handing, fun-to-rive RTRs to date,” Gittin Jr. said. “If the slightly modified performance of the Spec 1 is not enough, customers that demand more are sure to get their kicks with the up to 725 horsepower and optional fully-adjustable suspension that allows the driver to easily adjust the balance of the chassis to their liking.”

Although not included in Ford Racing’s press release, a Spec 5 RTR has been spotted on the tuner’s Facebook page. We don’t know what’s under the hood yet (or what happened to Spec 3 and Spec 4, for that matter), but the Mustang’s retooled body kit and lime green wheels hint at something theatrical indeed.

The Mustang RTR will be available at select Ford dealers starting in January 2015.
