Gray Design’s Sidewinder is a 630-horsepower dune buggy of pure insanity

In the automotive world, the most impractical vehicles are often the ones we crave most.

A 1,035–horsepower, track-only Ferrari? Sold out. Elemental sports cars with no practicality to speak of? Here’s the waiting list. A Kevlar-coated ‘SpyKar?’ Well, who wouldn’t want that?

Gray Design’s just-announced Sidewinder dune buggy fits the bill perfectly.

The digitally imagined concept is the latest project from the Swedish company, penned by CEO Eduard Gray. It features a ridiculously high-tech chassis, with rear boxed chromoly arms, anti-sway bars front and rear, and 3.0 KING bypass shock absorbers all around.

The styling for the futuristic buggy is simply out of this world. Sharp, menacing lines are a given, as is the Sidewinder’s generous ground clearance. The interior is ripped straight from the Tron franchise, with an Android-based OLED infotainment platform allowing users to fine tune the vehicle’s setting to their needs.

Power comes from a GM-sourced LSX Bowtie big block that generates a theoretical 630 horsepower and 432 pound-feet of torque. Gray Design claims the Sidewinder is good for a 0 to 60 mph sprint of 4.2 seconds, as well as a top speed of 93 mph.

As of now, there aren’t any production plans set in stone, but, I don’t know … call your congressman.

Gray Design isn’t just about dune buggies and other niche automobiles. Way back in 2011, the company announced its Sovereign ‘superyacht,’ complete with a wind turbine, infinity pool, and custom limousine.

As if that wasn’t enough, the Sovereign also features three decks, a retractable hood, a nightclub, a gym, a library, and a movie theater, wrapped up in a striking metallic finish. The price for all this luxury? A cool $135,000,000.

Don’t let the gimmicks fool you. The Ioniq 5 N is a serious track car
2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N drifting.

We’re finally getting to the fun part of automakers’ methodical quest to replicate their lineups with electric cars.

Performance versions of ordinary cars have been a staple of the auto industry for decades. But while we’ve already seen some variants of EVs boasting more power and more impressive stats — think Tesla Model S Plaid or Lucid Air Sapphire — the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is the first to truly apply that format to an EV.

The Maserati GranCabrio Folgore is one of the best-looking EVs yet
Front of the Maserati GranCabrio Folgore

Maserati is adopting electrified vehicles with open arms, and while that could potentially signal an identity crisis for the luxury Italian brand, that’s probably a good thing in the long run.

The company recently took the wraps off of the new Maserati GranCabrio Folgore, which is essentially a convertible version of its already released GranTurismo Folgore electric car. The new EV is its third go at electrified vehicles so far, and it flew us out to Rimini, Italy, to witness the big reveal in person.
