Egoista Motors’ electric EM 01 ST could get you 180 mph for $10,000

Egoista Motors really wants to build a $10,000 sports car, but the Italian automaker needs a bit of help.

The company is in the midst of a crowdfunding campaign to build its EM 01 Stradale (ST), a 180-mph plug-in that looks like a fun-sized F1 car. Egoista needs $100,000 on IndieGoGo to do it, and the brand has just received its first reservation.

The ST, which has also been called the Predator PC010 ST, can be offered either as a pure electric or a hybrid.

The $10,000 will get you the basic electric kit, which you obviously have to put together yourself. The Italian company will assemble it for you for a $3,000 fee, though.

For an extra charge, a gas engine will be mated with the li-Ion battery system, netting a 0 to 60 mph time of less than 3.0 seconds and a top speed of over 180 mph. In electric mode, the Stradale can travel 186 miles; with the help of the gas engine, that figure grows to 280.

Egoista describes the Stradale as “An Everyday Racecar,” and it equips an open cockpit, a stainless steel rollbar, and loads of zero-emissions adrenaline.

Even better, the EM 01 is actually street-legal.

If you place a deposit on the EM 01, you can expect delivery in June of 2015. But first, they have to make the money.

Like most crowdfunding sites, IndieGoGo offers various rewards for different pledges. $850 is all that’s required to reserve an EM 01 ST kit, with a $1,500 deposit necessary to preorder the assembled version. Balance will be due on delivery.

For $10,000, though, you’ll earn the Egoista M Virtual Simulator, a complete car (sans engine) with an attached computer and three displays. With the simulator, you’ll never have to leave your home to race the EM 01.

As of this writing, Egoista has 59 days to raise a remaining $98,285.

Don’t let the gimmicks fool you. The Ioniq 5 N is a serious track car
2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N drifting.

We’re finally getting to the fun part of automakers’ methodical quest to replicate their lineups with electric cars.

Performance versions of ordinary cars have been a staple of the auto industry for decades. But while we’ve already seen some variants of EVs boasting more power and more impressive stats — think Tesla Model S Plaid or Lucid Air Sapphire — the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is the first to truly apply that format to an EV.

The Maserati GranCabrio Folgore is one of the best-looking EVs yet
Front of the Maserati GranCabrio Folgore

Maserati is adopting electrified vehicles with open arms, and while that could potentially signal an identity crisis for the luxury Italian brand, that’s probably a good thing in the long run.

The company recently took the wraps off of the new Maserati GranCabrio Folgore, which is essentially a convertible version of its already released GranTurismo Folgore electric car. The new EV is its third go at electrified vehicles so far, and it flew us out to Rimini, Italy, to witness the big reveal in person.
