Hennessey VelociRaptor boosts the 2015 Ford F-150 to over 600 hp

So far, Ford hasn’t announced any performance versions of the redesigned 2015 F-150, meaning there’s no apparent heir to the epic F-150 SVT Raptor.

Hennessey decided to fill the performance vacuum with one of its own creations, and one of the tuning scene’s first takes on the new F-150.

The Texas speed merchant already offers its VelociRaptor 600 performance package for the outgoing Raptor, but now it’s adapted it to the non-Raptor 2015 truck.

Starting with the FX4 Super Crew model and 5.0-liter V8, Hennessey adds a supercharger, new engine management system, stainless-steel exhaust, and other modifications to get over 600 horsepower out of the engine.

As it does with most of its other upgrade packages, Hennessey also offered Raptor customers the option of more power; there was even a VelociRaptor 800 package with 810 hp. Maybe it will do the same here.

Even with “just” 600 hp, the 2015 F-150’s lightweight aluminum body should make the new VelociRaptor quiet the performer.

To match the original Raptor’s off-road chops, the new VelociRaptor gets 33-inch BFGoodrich tires on 17-inch wheels, and customers can also specify coil over suspension, Brembo brakes, tougher front and rear bumpers, and an LED light bar.

The VelociRaptor upgrade can be ordered through Ford dealers, and Hennessey says it’s also got upgrades planned for the smaller turbocharged EcoBoost V6 engines. Which dinosaur will they name those after?

A new sodium-metal battery has posted a charging number that makes today’s EVs look painfully slow. In laboratory testing, the cell operated at a 15C rate, equivalent to completing a charge or discharge in roughly four minutes.
