PlayStation Now offers console-free gaming on Samsung TVs in early 2015

PlayStation Now, Sony’s game streaming service, is coming to Samsung Smart TVs in the first half of 2015. It’ll be available as an app accessible via the Smart Hub interface on supported televisions. Players need to provide their own DualShock 4 controller — the press release makes no mention of DualShock 3 support — but they otherwise have access to the full extent of PS Now services through the app.

PlayStation Now made its debut at CES 2014, slowly rolling out over the months that followed on numerous Sony platforms, including both in-production PlayStation consoles, the PS Vita, PlayStation TV, and select Bravia TVs. The Samsung debut of PS Now, which offers streaming gameplay of select PlayStation 3 title (with more to come in time), marks the first time the service will be available on a non-Sony platform.

“Since we first introduced PlayStation Now at CES 2014, our vision has been to open the world of PlayStation to the masses by offering the service on the devices they use every day,” Sony Computer Entertainment’s Masayasu Ito said in the announcement. “Partnering with Samsung is a key step toward realizing this vision, as we can reach a broader audience of consumers who may not own a PlayStation console to show them why gaming with PlayStation is such a unique and amazing experience.”

PlayStation Now continues to grow, with more than 150 PS3 games currently available to stream through the service (full list here). While there’s no timetable, Sony has noted in the past that long-term plans include bringing games from other platforms to PS Now, spanning the length of the PlayStation brand’s history.

PlayStation Plus’ most notable free April offerings come from Microsoft

Sony outlined all the new offerings PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers can expect in April; surprisingly, Microsoft is the company behind two of this month's four offerings, Minecraft Legends, and the Overwatch 2 Mega Bundle.

On April 2, PS Plus can get those two things free of charge in addition to Immortals of Aveum and Skul: The Hero Slayer. Immortals of Aveum is a single-player shooter where players use magic instead of weapons. Although the thing it's most notable for is flopping upon its release, Immortals of Aveum is still a solid shooter that you might have missed out on, and you should give it a shot now that you can get it through PS Plus.
