Nathan Drake comes to PS4 this fall with Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection

UNCHARTED: The Nathan Drake Collection Announce Video | PS4
In an announcement that should surprise no one, Naughty Dog has revealed that Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection — the original trilogy of Uncharted games, remastered for the PlayStation 4 — is real, and it will be arriving October 9.

Naught Dog community strategist Arne Meyer made the announcement via the official PlayStation Blog, promising that the trilogy will not only be in 1080p and 60 frames per second, but will also include Photo Mode, something Sony has also added for its God of War III and The Last of Us PS4 ports.

The Nathan Drake Collection is in development at Bluepoint Games, a studio previously known for excellent ports of Titanfall, Ico, and PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale. However, the collection will only include the campaigns for the trilogy, even making it clear at the bottom of the PS4 box art. Although the Uncharted games were never particularly famous for their multiplayer, the decision to omit them suggests that The Nathan Drake Collection may not always have been in the works.

While Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End was originally scheduled for a late 2015 release, directors Bruce Straley and Neil Druckmann called the project “much more ambitious than we originally envisioned,” necessitating a spring 2016 release date. Straley and Druckmann, who previously directed The Last of Us, were brought on mid-development to replace the departing Justin Richmond.

The remastered games now take A Thief’s End‘s place in 2015, and the collection also includes Beta access to the Uncharted 4 multiplayer beta, much like Halo: The Master Chief Collection offered last year — it appears they share more than just similar naming conventions. Pre-orders for The Nation Drake Collection also include the “Nathan Drake Pack,” which includes gold guns and extra single-player skins, while digital pre-orders also include a new PS4 theme available “as an immediate download.”

PS Plus subscribers can get PS4’s most underrated exclusive for free next month
Art fights a giant bird in Dreams.

Sony announced the three-game lineup that PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers can redeem for free throughout the month of August. It's an odd batch of titles that includes a sports game, one of 2021's best indies, and a user-generated, content-focused PS4 exclusive that never got the love it deserved.

Specifically, those three games are PGA Tour 2K23, Death's Door, and Dreams.

One of 2023’s most anticipated RPGs is coming to PS Plus on day one
The Solstice Warriors stand under a full moon in Sea of Stars' key art.

Sabotage Studio announced that its highly anticipated retro-style RPG Sea of Stars will be available as part of the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium Game Catalog when it releases on August 29.
Sea of Stars is a turn-based RPG inspired by classic games like Chrono Trigger, where the main heroes' powers are based around the sun and moon. Sea of Stars' distinct visual style and polished-looking gameplay has allowed this indie game to stand out alongside the liks of Baldur's Gate 3 and Starfield, other RPGs that will release around the same time. Clearly, Sabotage wants to get this game in front of as many people as possible during this busy period for games, so it makes sense to put Sea of Stars on game subscription services.

It's in good company as a day one PS Plus Extra and Premium title, as it follows solid indies like Stray, Tchia, and Humanity. Sabotage also released a demo for Sea of Stars on PS4 and PS5 today so people can try a bit of the game early.
PS Plus Extra and Premium actually aren't the only subscription services that Sea of Stars will be on at launch. Previously, Sabotage had confirmed that the Xbox and PC versions of the game are launching on Xbox Game Pass on day one as well. So, if you have either of the major video game subscription services, you'll have ample opportunity to play the game across three platforms without having to pay for it. It will launch on Nintendo Switch, though, and you'll have to pay the full $35 price for it there.
Sea of Stars launches across Xbox Game Pass, PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium, and Nintendo Switch on August 29.

You can get Call of Duty and Alan Wake with PS Plus in July

Sony has confirmed the three PS4 and PS5 games PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers will receive this July, and it's actually the best lineup the service has seen in a while. It features one of the best Call of Duty games from recent years, a cult classic that needs to be played before its sequel launches next year, and an overlooked 2022 indie.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War was first released in 2020 and, as its title suggests, is set in the 1980s during the Cold War. It features one of the most creative Call of Duty campaigns since Modern Warfare 2 and makes excellent use of DualSense's haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. The multiplayer and zombie modes are good fun too. Next up is Alan Wake Remastered, a remaster of an excellent 2010 horror-thriller from Control developer Remedy Entertainment. It's an experience best played unspoiled, so I'll simply recommend you go and play this. Its PS Plus addition is timed well, too, as Alan Wake II is set to release and continue the story this October.
Finally, Endling - Extinction is Forever is available this month. This 2022 indie game follows a mother fox as she tries to protect her cubs in a forest continuously getting ravaged by humans. It's a chilling, staunchly harrowing adventure that clearly displays the negative effects of deforestation, pollution, and environmental exploitation. You might have missed this game last year, as it came out on the same day as Stray, so definitely give it a shot now if you haven't yet.
This lineup of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Cross-Gen Bundle, Alan Wake Remastered, and Endling - Extinction is Forever is one of the best lineups PS Plus Essential has seen in months, so definitely pick up these games when they are available between July 4 and July 31. Make sure you download June's titles before July 4 as well.
