With the upcoming series Fear the Walking Dead, AMC promised to give us a look at the early days of the zombie virus that had already devastated humanity in The Walking Dead. And, as the ominous new teaser previews, that’s exactly what we’re going to get when the series premieres this summer.
The 30-second preview features Fear the Walking Dead star Kim Dickens (Gone Girl, Sons of Anarchy) as a guidance counselor having a conversation with a student about the “reports in five states” regarding a mysterious virus. After dismissing the worried student’s concerns and telling him he needs to stay off the Internet, she assures him that if there really was a problem, “the authorities would tell us.”
As anyone familiar with The Walking Dead knows, that student’s concerns were more than valid.
Set in Los Angeles on the opposite side of the country from the events unfolding in The Walking Dead, the new series serves as a prequel of sorts that explores the time before a mysterious plague turned the majority of the population into flesh-hungry zombies and turned the remaining, living population against itself in a struggle for survival.
Along with Dickens, the cast of Fear the Walking Dead includes Cliff Curtis (Missing, Gang Related), Frank Dillane (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince), Alycia Debnam-Carey (Into the Storm), Elizabeth Rodriguez (Orange is the New Black), and Mercedes Mason (Quarantine 2: Terminal).
Fear the Walking Dead is executive produced by much of the creative team behind The Walking Dead, including series creator Robert Kirkman, as well as Gale Anne Hurd, Greg Nicotero, David Alpert, and David Erickson (Sons of Anarchy), who serves as the series’ showrunner. The first three episodes of the series are directed by Adam Davidson (Community, Hell on Wheels).
Already renewed for a second season, Fear the Walking Dead will premiere on AMC this summer with a six-episode first season.
