Ever since Apple broke ground on its so-called “spaceship” campus, drone enthusiasts from far and wide have been descending on Cupertino to record flyovers documenting the ongoing construction work.
The latest video landed on YouTube earlier this week, and shows in more detail than ever how the ambitious project is beginning to really come together.
Recorded by Duncan Sinfield using the DJI Inspire 1 with a Zenmuse X3 gimbal and camera, the footage offers a decent look at not just the main donut-shaped centerpiece, but also several of the other buildings dotted about the expansive grounds.
And unlike earlier drone videos of the campus, Sinfield drops his flying machine in low, offering a close-up look at parts of the main building. To see just how far it’s progressed in the last 14 months, take a look at this earlier drone video:
When completed, the 176-acre campus will include the main circular four-story building (with a solar-paneled roof), a research and development facility, fitness centers, dining facilities, and a 1,000-seat underground auditorium.
There’ll also be a dedicated visitor’s center featuring an observation deck, cafe, and Apple Store.
The campus will be home to around 14,000 Apple employees and should be ready to open toward the end of 2016. The building’s eye-catching design is the work of the renowned British architect Norman Foster, though the overall project was the long-time ambition of Steve Jobs, who carried the plan forward until his death four years ago.
