Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight is getting an early digital release to meet demand according to The Weinstein Company. The Samuel L. Jackson-starring ensemble film will be widely released to 1,958 theaters tomorrow December 30, two days earlier than anticipated according to The Wrap. “While we are beyond thrilled with the limited release numbers, the demand from moviegoers to see this film has exceeded our capabilities in 70mm,” said TWC exec Erik Lomis in a statement.

The Western was released on Christmas Day as a 70mm “Roadshow” in 100 theaters in 44 cities, the largest 70mm release in 20 years. The Weinstein Company retrofitted many of the theaters with old projectors to show the film in its intended analog format. The limited release did well at the box office, selling $4.6 million in tickets according to The Hollywood Reporter.

While there were some technical difficulties with the projectors, reports indicate that most showings went off without too many problems.  “Many of the hiccups were during the first few showings, when theaters were still getting used to the new/old equipment,” explained The Hollywood Reporter. An informal Twitter poll from Indiewire’s Sam Adams showed that 72 percent of viewers saw the film projected properly.

Theaters currently showing the film in its 70mm format will continue screenings, which isn’t surprising considering its per-screen average of $46,107 over Christmas weekend.  “We were expecting about a $35K PTA this weekend, so this shows a tremendous response to the film and Quentin Tarantino,” explained Lomis in a statement.

The Hateful Eight follows the stagecoach journey of a bounty hunter (Kurt Russell), his fugitive (Jennifer Jason Leigh), a soldier-turned-bounty hunter (Jackson), and a southern renegade (Walton Goggins). Tim Roth, Demian Bichir, Michael Madsen, Bruce Dern, and others also appear in the ensemble cast.

The best movies on Amazon Prime Video (May 2024)
Nicholas Galitzine and Anne Hathaway in The Idea of You.

Amazon Prime Video is starting off strong in May with several new additions to its library of movies, including the premiere of the original romantic drama The Idea of You. Last year's underrated Christmas drama The Holdovers is also now streaming on Prime Video. And as far as we're concerned, a good drama is never out of season.

Prime Video lost a handful of movies at the end of April, and Paul Thomas Anderson's Licorice Pizza is only sticking around through the end of the weekend. But everything else on our list of the best movies on Amazon Prime Video right now is still available. Just keep reading, and you can make plans to watch any of the films that you want to see this month.

The 50 best movies on Netflix right now (May 2024)
Jenna Ortega in Miller's Girl.

It should come as no surprise that this year's hit rom-com Anyone But You has a stranglehold on the top slot of the list of the most popular movies on Netflix. But it is somewhat surprising to see Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver completely disappear from the list. That's going to make Rebel Moon – Part Three very unlikely to happen, and it may even discourage Netflix from committing extremely high budgets to its original sci-fi movies.

More tellingly, two of this week's new additions are modestly budget dramas: Miller's Girl and The Judge. The former features Wednesday's Jenna Ortega, while the latter has great lead performances by Robert Downey Jr. and Robert Duvall. So it's not a mystery as to why both of those films are two of the top performers of the week.

MCU’s Fantastic Four: release date, trailer, cast, plot
The cast of "The Fantastic Four."

It's not a coincidence that one of the first Marvel movies announced after Disney purchased 20th Century Fox's entertainment assets in 2019 was a new reboot of The Fantastic Four. In 1961, Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby launched the Marvel Universe as we know it with Fantastic Four #1, and it was the comic that set the tone for everything that came after.

Because the rights to the Fantastic Four were tied up at Fox for the better part of two decades, FF supporting players like Silver Surfer were withheld from the MCU. Now that the characters are firmly under Marvel Studios' control, the sky's the limit for the upcoming reboot. And we're here to share everything we know about The Fantastic Four so far.
Who has been cast in The Fantastic Four?
