Toshiba Announces New Laptops

The Tecra S2 is one of the first notebooks to incorporate the new NVIDIA(R) GeForce Go 6600 graphics controller with 128 MB or 64 MB dedicated video memory, which is designed to maximize response time, provide better platform image management and deliver crisp vivid colors.

Toshiba’s Tecra S2 offers users a complete suite of communication technologies, including Gigabit Ethernet, V.92 modem, fast infrared, optional Bluetooth, and the choice of two wireless networking options: Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection (802.11b/g) or Intel PRO/Wireless 2915 ABG Network Connection (802.11 a/b/g). To simplify the user’s connectivity experience, the Tecra S2 comes bundled with ConfigFree, Toshiba’s intuitive graphic connectivity management utility.

The Tecra S2 is available with either a 1- or 3-year limited warranty and includes Toshiba’s premier Management Innovation global service for the mobile computing user. Customers can choose from several service options, including extended warranties, carry-in support at Authorized Service Providers throughout the country for same-day or next-day service, or utilizing any of more than 3,000 UPS stores for packaging and delivery of the product to a centralized depot for 24-hour service turnaround.

Tecra M3

With an emphasis on performance and mobility, the Tecra M3 series incorporates the new Intel Centrino Mobile Technology platform (formerly codenamed Sonoma); which is built around Intel(R) Pentium M processors with a 533 MHz front side bus, integrated wireless LAN and the new Mobile Intel 915 Express chipset (formerly codenamed Alviso). This advanced suite of features coupled with other next-generation technologies enables the Tecra M3 series to deliver better performance, improved wireless connectivity and increased mobile security options.

While on the road, the ability to connect to the Internet or a company server is a priority. The Tecra M3 series offers mobile professionals a complete suite of communication technologies including a built-in Gigabit Ethernet, V.92 modem, fast infrared and optional Bluetooth as well as the choice of either the Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection (802.11b/g) or Intel PRO/Wireless 2915 ABG Network Connection (802.11 a/b/g) wireless protocols. To simplify the user’s connectivity experience, the Tecra M3 is bundled with ConfigFree, Toshiba’s intuitive graphic connectivity management utility.

Toshiba Tecra M3

The Tecra M3 series features the new GeForce Go 6 Series PCI Express bus graphics processors from NVIDIA designed to maximize response time, provide better platform image management and deliver crisp vivid colors. Users can select from models with the NVIDIA GeForce Go 6200 TE graphics controller with 64 MB dedicated video memory or the GeForce Go 6600 TE with 128 MB dedicated.

For any mobile professional battery life is a primary concern. With this in mind, the Tecra M3 comes with a six-cell lithium-ion battery for up to 3.6 hours of battery life. For users that demand the maximum possible computing time, the Tecra M3 offers a high-capacity 12-cell battery option. Another innovation is Toshiba’s patented Slim SelectBay(R), which supports a variety of optical disc drives, an additional hard disc drive or a second six-cell lithium-ion battery. The scalable bay gives users the flexibility to remain productive even longer when away from an AC outlet.

4 CPUs you should buy instead of the Ryzen 7 7800X3D
AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D sitting on a motherboard.

The Ryzen 7 7800X3D is one of the best gaming processors you can buy, and it's easy to see why. It's easily the fastest gaming CPU on the market, it's reasonably priced, and it's available on a platform that AMD says it will support for several years. But it's not the right chip for everyone.

Although the Ryzen 7 7800X3D ticks all the right boxes, there are several alternatives available. Some are cheaper while still offering great performance, while others are more powerful in applications outside of gaming. The Ryzen 7 7800X3D is a great CPU, but if you want to do a little more shopping, these are the other processors you should consider.

Even the new mid-tier Snapdragon X Plus beats Apple’s M3
A photo of the Snapdragon X Plus CPU in the die

You might have already heard of the Snapdragon X Elite, the upcoming chips from Qualcomm that everyone's excited about. They're not out yet, but Qualcomm is already announcing another configuration to live alongside it: the Snapdragon X Plus.

The Snapdragon X Plus is pretty similar to the flagship Snapdragon X Elite in terms of everyday performance but, as a new chip tier, aims to bring AI capabilities to a wider portfolio of ARM-powered laptops. To be clear, though, this one is a step down from the flagship Snapdragon X Elite, in the same way that an Intel Core Ultra 7 is a step down from Core Ultra 9.

Gigabyte just confirmed AMD’s Ryzen 9000 CPUs
Pads on the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D.

Gigabyte spoiled AMD's surprise a bit by confirming the company's next-gen CPUs. In a press release announcing a new BIOS for X670, B650, and A620 motherboards, Gigabyte not only confirmed that support has been added for next-gen AMD CPUs, but specifically referred to them as "AMD Ryzen 9000 series processors."

We've already seen MSI and Asus add support for next-gen AMD CPUs through BIOS updates, but neither of them called the CPUs Ryzen 9000. They didn't put out a dedicated press release for the updates, either. It should go without saying, but we don't often see a press release for new BIOS versions, suggesting Gigabyte wanted to make a splash with its support.
