Can you buy a great security camera for less than $30? You betcha!

Amazon has brought some phenomenal Prime Day deals to the table this year, making this one of the best times to shop for tech. One Prime Day smart home deal that caught our attention was the Blink Mini security camera, priced at only $25. This is about a 30% discount off the camera’s regular price of $35.

Security camera prices have declined recently, and we’ve seen better-quality budget cameras hit the market, like the Wyze Cam V2. You no longer have to pay $200 or more for a decent security camera. The Blink Mini is yet another example of this, with a retail price of only $35 and a Prime Day price of $25. In spite of the low price, the Blink Mini has respectable specifications — 1080-pixel video, night vision, two-way talk, motion alerts, and a 110-degree diagonal field of view.

The Blink Mini is very small; measuring only 2 inches by 1.9 inches by 1.4 inches, it’s small enough to hide away in a corner. But, since it requires a wire for power, you’ll need to keep it plugged into an outlet. You can use the camera on a flat surface, or you can mount it on a wall. The Blink Mini comes with a free trial of the Blink subscription plan, which lets you record and save video clips to the cloud. After the trial, you can continue the subscription for $3 per month (for one camera). For local storage, you’ll soon be able to add on a Blink Sync module 2, where you can back up clips for up to 10 cameras. The Blink Mini also works with Alexa, so you can stream live video to an Echo smart display like the Echo Show 5. Amazon is even offering a bundle deal this Prime Day where Prime Members can buy an Echo Show 5 for $45, and add on a Blink Mini cam for $5. This bundle deal is an outstanding value.

Amazon is selling the Blink Mini compact indoor security camera for $25 this Prime Day. Prime members can also get the Blink Mini Camera for $5 as an add-on when they purchase an already-discounted Echo Show 5 or Echo Show 8. Inventories are dwindling down, but you can still take advantage of this deal if you act fast.

Anker finally admits to Eufy security camera issues
Eufy Floodlight Camera 2 Pro turned on and installed on side of building.

Anker, the parent company of Eufy, has officially admitted that its line of security cameras was not as secure as previously thought. Its products were said to use end-to-end encryption for recorded video footage -- but it turns out that wasn’t always the case.

In late 2022, it was discovered that Eufy cameras had a bit of a privacy issue. Using the VLC media player, a Eufy user managed to access video through the cloud that was supposedly only stored locally. There were also reports as far back as 2021 of folks viewing camera feeds of strangers, although Eufy chalked that up to a bug that impacted only a small number of products.
