BioWare teases a Nightmare with a live-action ‘You’ve Been Chosen’ creepfest

bioware teases nightmare live action youve chosen creepfest teaser screencap
Could BioWare be building a horror game? That’s certainly the implication in this so-called “Nightmare teaser,” which hints at a Gamescom reveal.

The live-action short features a hoodie-wearing white dude running around in a nightmare dreamscape populated by an infinite alleyway, a suited man with a gushing cloud of smoke where his head should be, and a stone-faced doppelganger of our hero(?) locked inside a muscle car.

Don’t look for sense where there is none (yet). Check out the trailer below, then head over to www.Youve-Been-Chosen.com to find a newsletter sign-up and some cryptic text:

The time is near. They are watching. Your power is rising. Cologne, Germany. You’ve Been Chosen. Watch the new “Nightmare” teaser from BioWare.

Cologne, Germany is the site of Europe’s annual Gamescom consumer show. It kicks off on August 13, 2014 and runs through August 17, so we should get some clarity on this Nightmare in a few weeks. In the meantime, what do you think is going on here?

Electronic Arts reportedly puts Mass Effect franchise on temporary hiatus
Mass Effect Andromeda

Mass Effect: Andromeda was a sequel nearly five years in the making, and following its mixed critical reception, publisher Electronic Arts has reportedly made the decision to put the science-fiction series on hiatus.

The news comes via Kotaku's Jason Schreier, who was told by "people familiar with the studio" that the Mass Effect franchise would be put on temporary hold as BioWare Montreal -- the primary studio behind Andromeda -- would be downsizing. Instead of cutting jobs, EA took the opportunity to relocate some of BioWare Montreal's staff to EA Motive to assist in work on Star Wars Battlefront II.

Legendary role-playing game developer BioWare's attention is set squarely on Mass Effect: Andromeda right now, but the studio has another project planned that looks to be a massive departure from its previous works.

During a financial report delivered by BioWare's parent company Electronic Arts, CEO Andrew Wilson revealed that BioWare would be delivering an "all-new IP" by the end of fiscal year 2018 — or the end of March 2018. Unlike the role-playing games that the studio is best known for, the new project will be an action game, "bringing friends together to play in exhilarating new ways."
