Turn your stove into a smart stove with Toch Smarturns

There are some appliances in your house that can be easily replaced. Light bulb went out? Screw in a new one. Waffle iron not working? Get one that spits out Texas-shaped pastries. But when it comes to your stove, you’ve gotta put a little bit more thought into any major changes you’d like to make, which is a pity, given the rise in smart-home appliances as of late. But fret not, friends. If you’re looking to turn your average stove into a smart stove, there are no replacements necessary — just additions. With Toch Smarturns, you’ll be able to bring your cooktop into the 21st century, all without any heavy lifting.

Promising to add “intelligence to your kitchen to keep you safer,” Toch Smarturns comes complete with a set of intelligent knobs (you choose whether you want two or four), a hub, a motion sensor, and adapters. These parts work together to automatically monitor your activity within the kitchen area and your stove whenever your burners are on. Should you leave the stove unattended for an extended period of time while the heat is still on, Smarturns will notify you of a potentially dangerous situation by way of alarms from the hub and a notification from the companion smartphone app.

Not only could this save your dinner, it could save your life.

Rather than looking to simply provide convenience, these add-on knobs are looking to solve a salient problem. The team behind the device notes the National Fire Protection Association reports that 34 percent (162,400) of reported home fires each year result from unattended cooking, which might be prevented with a smart stove courtesy of Smarturns.

If you pledge around $68 to the Kickstarter campaign, you’ll be privy to the early-bird deal of two intelligent knobs with one motion sensor and one hub, which Toch Smarturns says is “the craziest price this package will ever be.” So if you seem to have a habit of getting distracted while cooking, this may just be the smart home device for you.

The intelligent knobs are compatible with “most commonly used electric and gas stoves which use knobs to operate the burners.”

This smart display alternative just added a powerful new feature to help track your chores
A person using the Skylight.

Skylight is responsible for a variety of smart display alternatives with a focus on organization and schedule planning. Last summer, it launched the premium Cal Max -- a 27-inch smart calendar that we called a “streamlined smart display alternative.” Since its arrival, Skylight has continued to roll out new features to the device, and now you’ll find a powerful feature called Routines available across the Skylight Calendar lineup. Designed to simplify chores and build good habits for the entire family, it’s a unique new feature that changes how you interact with the display.

The idea behind Routines is simple -- offer visual feedback and an easy-to-use interface to make it easier than ever to keep track of (and complete) all your chores. These can be set up on a recurring schedule, allowing you to program in everything from a quick 15 minutes of reading before bedtime or a few minutes each morning for your kids to brush their teeth. Routines can be customized with various emojis and color-coding to help keep track of them, and a fun confetti animation is triggered once they’re complete.
