Reddit Recap: how to see your Reddit 2022 year in review

At the end of the year, it's become common for popular apps to offer users a way to look back at their activity from the past 12 months — such as Spotify Wrapped and Apple Music Replay. Starting today, Reddit users can take a look at their 2022 "Reddit Recap" to see stats about their time on the platform, the communities they've engaged with, and the reach their posts have had over the last year.

What You Need

  • Smartphone with the Reddit app

  • An active Reddit account

The features of each year's Reddit Recap change annually, but 2022's offers a new, in-depth look into a user's history with the app. In addition to seeing the stats and data, Reddit users can also claim free accessories for their avatar — including the Tardigrade, Narwhal, and Banana Mask — by heading over to the Avatar Builder and selecting them under the Explore tab.

How to see your Reddit Recap

Accessing your Reddit Recap is simple and can be done in-app or when using a computer browser. The steps below will be focusing on the app version of the feature, but the steps are the same regardless of where you're viewing it.

Step 1: Open the Reddit app and select the narwhal icon located in the top right corner of the Home or Discover tabs.

Step 2: Swipe down to view your stats until you reach a page that reads What's your secret Reddit ability?

Step 3: Select the card with the question mark on it and it'll flip over to reveal a personalized virtual trading card that features your avatar and other stats about your account. If you don't want to share your username or avatar, toggle the switches below the card. When you do, the card will update to your preferences.

Step 4: Scroll all the way down to the end of the slides. Once you're at the bottom, you can share your results by selecting Share your recap.

Step 5: After selecting Share your recap, select how you want to share the information whether that's directly with a text of using any of the other share options.

Reddit Recap not working or not showing? Do this

Reddit Recap is a fun journey through your Reddit year in review — but what if Recap doesn't work? Some Reddit users may notice that Reddit Recap is not working or not showing, putting a wrench in the whole experience.

If this happens to you, there are a few things you can try to fix it. If you're using Reddit on your phone, close the app and reopen it. You should also check to see if any updates are available, and if they are, download them promptly.

There could also be something funky with your internet connection. Whether you're using the Reddit mobile app or the desktop site, try 1) disconnecting from your connection and reconnecting or 2) connecting to a different Wi-Fi or mobile network.

Lastly, it could be an issue with Reddit itself. You can check the status of Reddit servers at any time and see if things are operational — or if something's busted.

The problem with Reddit Recap and Apollo

As fun as Reddit Recap is, it comes with a fairly big limitation. Only your browsing history from the Reddit desktop site or official mobile app is recorded and saved for Reddit Recap. If you browse Reddit from a third-party client — such as the popular Apollo app for iOS — your browsing there is not saved for Reddit Recap.

Say you use Apollo for checking Reddit on your phone, but use the desktop site when you're on your laptop. Browsing from your laptop is saved for Reddit Recap, but your time on Apollo isn't. Folks who use the first-party Reddit app don't need to worry about this, but if you're a frequent Apollo user — or have another third-party Reddit client you love — be sure to keep this in mind.

Apple and Google are teaming up to make tracking devices less creepy
Apple AirTag lifestyle image.

Apple and Google are partnering to develop a new standard for Bluetooth tracking devices that seeks to stop malicious stalking and other abusive use of gadgets like the Apple AirTag. Essentially, this would be a universal, OS-level tracker detection and alert system that will work uniformly across Android and iOS. The two companies are inviting stakeholders to review the proposal and submit their feedback within the next three months.

Once the feedback period is over, all the involved parties will work together to finalize the technical standardization, with the hope of releasing a market-ready version by the end of the year. Following the release and adoption by makers of tracking devices, the tech will be generally made available via a software update for Android and iOS devices.

The iPhone 14 Pro's launch brought a number of changes and additions to Apple's smartphone range and one of the coolest is the Dynamic Island — a section of the screen around the selfie camera's hole-punch cutout that expands and changes to deliver notifications, show music tracks playing, and even show you how far away your Uber is.

It's a versatile feature with a lot of potential, even if that potential hasn't been met yet, and it's only available on the Apple iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
