Today, Samsung and and Verizon announced the Stratosphere: the first Android smartphone with a full LTE 4G connection and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. Better yet, it will launch Oct. 13 for $200 with a two-year contract–much less than the price most LTE phones have been launching at. As a bonus, the phone has a $50 mail-in rebate.

The Stratosphere has a single-core 1GHz Cortex A8 Hummingbird processor, Super AMOLED display (common on most Samsung phones), 5MP rear camera, 1.3MP front camera, and runs on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). The phone’s competition will be the Droid 3, which has opposing strengths: though it lacks 4G LTE speeds, it makes up for it with dual-core processing power and a big screen.

In the press release, Samsung also points out that the Stratosphere has some added business features like Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, services from Cisco, remote device management, and remote wipe.

There’s a big problem with iOS 18’s amazing customization features
Examples of how iOS 18's home screen can be customized.

“The home screen is truly your own.”

That’s the phrase used when Apple introduced iOS 18 during its Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC 2024) keynote, and it heralded the end of the days when the design of iOS’ home screen was rigidly fixed.

One of my favorite action cameras just got a huge update
Insta360 Go 3S camera body in hand.

The Insta360 Go 3 has been one of my favorite vlogging action cameras for the past few months, alongside the Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses. Its go-anywhere size is the biggest advantage. However, it doesn’t support 4K video recording and has average battery life. But one of these is improving with the new Insta360 Go 3S. The new compact action camera offers 4K resolution support, better switching between aspect ratios, a more capable processor, and more.

The $400 Insta360 Go 3S is heavier at 1.38 ounces (39.1 grams) compared to the Go 3, which weighs 1.25 ounces(35.5 grams). The added weight also adds a bunch of new features. It gets 4K resolution support for all the video modes at 24/25/30/50 frames per second (fps), except for slow motion, which has also seen an upgrade from 1080p at up to 200 fps to 2.7K at 100 fps. You also get an enhanced chipset, which is claimed to offer 50% more CPU computing power than before.
