‘Vital’: High-end ZTE-made smartphone for Sprint looks to be on its way

vitalsprintCheck out our review of the Sprint Vital smartphone.

It looks as if Sprint is on the verge of launching its own high-end ZTE-made smartphone, reportedly called Vital.

Chatter on the subject has been doing the rounds for a couple of months now, with information supplied to Engadget apparently confirmingvitalsprintzte that ZTE is set on its mission to enhance its brand and broaden its appeal.

Engadget reported Tuesday it had come into possession of a bundle of images showing the device, together with a “slickly produced” promo video. Its anonymous source also supplied it with various spec details.

According to Engadget’s contact, the Vital will run on Android Jelly Bean (v4.1) and sport a 5-inch HD display (resolution currently unknown), 1.5-GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel rear camera, 8GB of internal storage (expandable), NFC and a 2,500mAh battery.

The device, set to run on Sprint’s 4G LTE network, looks likely to form part of ZTE’s strategy to transform its image as a company more interested in producing handsets for budget conscious consumers to one that can hold its own in the high-end segment of the market as well, appealing to more affluent consumers in the process.

If the Vital smartphone is indeed real and proves a hit with consumers, prepare to see the Chinese manufacturer rolling out many more high-end handsets in the near future as it seeks to build upon and expand its current position in the market.
