Windows Phone 7 unlocked, Visual Basic support added

Windows Phone 7 isn’t yet a month old, but hackers have already jailbroken the phone. According to The Register, the first jailbreaking app is now available for Microsoft’s fledgling OS, enabling users to install unsigned, unapproved applications on Windows phones. Previously, users had to register as a developer and pay $99 to enable the installation of unsigned apps, but the ChevronWP7 unlocking tool gives all users this ability.

To jailbreak a phone is to free it from artificial limitations set by manufacturers and carriers. An obvious benefit is the ability to install any application on a phone instead of the filtered, approved applications on OS and carrier app stores. In some devices, the technique also allows a phone to be moved to another carrier. Developer tools and features are sometimes opened up as well, enabling far more control over phone functions than manufacturers or carriers intended.

Jailbreaking techniques and apps are available for Apple’s iPhone 4 and Android devices. Recently, hackers have even conjured up a way to run Android on iPhone hardware. However, playing around with these devices does come with risks. Malware, adware, and viruses have started to creep up on smartphones.

Visual Basic comes to WP7

In related news, Microsoft has announced that developers can now create Silverlight WP7 apps in Visual Basic and get them placed in the Windows Phone Marketplace. Developers must have Visual Studio 2010 Pro or higher. Visual Basic was first introduced by Microsoft in 1991 to spur developer growth on the Windows platform. It is considered one of the easier programming languages to learn. Hopefully the move will help the Windows Phone Marketplace compete with Android Market and the Apple App Store, which both have tens of thousands (perhaps hundreds of thousands) more apps and games than WP7.

Apple Watch Series 7 will launch with iPhone 13 after all, analyst says
Apple Watch 7 prototype.

Rumors of delays to production of the Apple Watch Series 7 are greatly exaggerated, according to reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. We're now expecting to see the new iPhone 13, the AirPods 3, and the Apple Watch Series 7  launch simultaneously at tomorrow's "California Streaming" event. While there were some concerns about issues with mass production, Kuo says that production will continue as scheduled. In other words, there will be no delays in getting the latest Apple gear.

The latest word from Kuo goes against a Nikkei story at the beginning of this month that stated Apple was facing serious production delays due to the complexity of assembling the Series 7. "The current disappointing production quality could be attributed to the complexity of the design, which is significantly different from that of previous generations of the watch, and assemblers found issues putting together electronics modules, components, and displays."

Apple Watch Series 7 set to launch in limited quantities alongside iPhone 13
prime day apple watch price predictions

The Apple Watch Series 7 is set to launch during the "California Streaming" iPhone 13 event on September 14, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports in his Power On newsletter. There was no confirmation of a launch earlier since the "complicated designs" of the new smartwatch caused production delays.
This new launch announcement could lead to three possibilities, Gurman says: 1) The Apple Watch Series 7 launch will be postponed until the company has tackled its production challenges, or 2) the launch will happen but on a smaller scale, with the device available in limited quantities, or 3) the device will launch as expected. but won’t be available for some time.

Either way, users will receive confirmation during the virtual livestreamed event to be held 10 a.m. PT on Tuesday, September 14.
The Apple Watch Series 7 was earlier rumored to offer blood pressure monitoring (among other health-tracking features), but Gurman quickly refuted the possibility with a two-word tweet: “No chance.”
Despite this disappointing turn of events, users still have something to be excited about. The redesigned hardware of the Apple Watch Series 7 will feature flat edges and larger 41mm and 45mm displays, compared to the current 40mm and 44mm displays.  The watch is said to feature a "new lamination technique," allowing its display to be raised closer to the top cover.
Some users speculate that the large screen feature would allow Apple to launch fresh exclusive watch faces for the new series. Finally, it is also expected to have faster processors and improved battery life, offering more value for the money.
Watch the official Apple event for more information about the iPhone 13, the Apple Watch 7, and possibly even the AirPods 3 launch.

OnePlus 7T vs. iPhone 11: Which one will capture your next paycheck?
oneplus 7t review pocket

If you don't need a top-of-the-line premier smartphone that costs upwards of $1,000, a range of somewhat more affordable options with the features most people need is available at a more reasonable price. Current examples include last year's OnePlus 7T and the iPhone 11. But even mid-level devices pack an economic punch, and neither of these can be classified as budget phones -- not with base prices starting at $599 and $699 respectively. Let's see how they shake out in a feature-by-feature challenge.
