There’s a lot that you can take from the latest trailer for Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy, which offers up a two-and-a-half-minute look at the August 1 sci-fi/comedy blockbuster, but really, there’s just one thing that truly matters. Groot. He speaks. He just says “I am Groot!” — really, all he ever says is “I am Groot!” — but that’s enough to bring joy to the coldest of fanfolk hearts. Especially when it’s delivered in Vin Diesel’s dulcet tones.

The light-hearted Guardians represents a big tonal shift away from the more serious Marvel films that precede it. “Serious” is a relative term here; where previous Marvel efforts feel like action flicks with a strong attachment to their funnybones, what we’ve seen of this one feels more like a comedy with some sci-fi action wrapped around it. That might seem like a minor distinction, but the trailer suggests much more of a summer comedy vibe than we’ve seen previously from this studio.

Looks like fun. We’ll find out when Guardians of the Galaxy hits theaters on August 1.

A trio of heroines unite in The Marvels’ second trailer
Brie Larsen, Teyonah Parris, and Iman Vellani in The Marvels.

Earlier this year, the first trailer for The Marvels revealed that Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), and Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) have become inexplicably linked via their powers. Whenever they use their abilities, they are somehow teleported into each others' position, even across galaxies. Now, the new trailer for The Marvels suggests that this wasn't an accident, as we initially believed.

The best MCU endings, ranked
T'Challa, Captain America, and Black Widow stand in front of the Wakandan army in "Avengers: Infinity War."

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is a franchise that facilitates cross-over events between characters, storylines, and settings throughout its films. Therefore, the endings in each film must set up future stories within the MCU. Sometimes, that can be good, especially if it highlights new characters or projects. Other times, the endings can feel flat if too much focus is dedicated to teasing future films or TV shows.

With the recent release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, there have been 32 movies in the MCU. Below, we rank the five best endings in the MCU.
