Ride a rocket to orbit in this cool ULA launch video

Amazon is beginning to get into the groove when it comes to launches for its Project Kuiper internet satellites.

The company has so far made five large-batch satellite deployments following the first one in April 2025 as it seeks to build out its constellation of internet satellites to take on SpaceX’s Starlink service.

The most recent launch took place on September 25 when a United Launch Alliance (ULA) Atlas V rocket blasted off from Cape Canaveral in Florida carrying 27 Project Kuiper satellites.

ULA has just released a cool five-minute video (below) of the launch that takes you from the launchpad all the way to orbit, with the curvature of Earth clear to see. Watch for the jettison of the rocket’s solid rocket boosters at the 1:46 mark, and for the fairing jettison at 3:03. The main booster separates at 4:32.

ULA’s workhorse Atlas V rocket is a medium to heavy-lift expendable launch system and since its debut flight in 2002 has been serving a range of missions for government and commercial customers.

The highly reliable rocket has launched 105 times since its maiden flight, with only one partial failure recorded when it failed to reach the intended orbit in a flight in 2007.

Amazon is using a range of spaceflight providers to launch its Project Kuiper satellites for a global internet service.

The next Project Kuiper flight, scheduled for October 8, will use a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket to deploy another 24 internet satellites. The mission will bring the total number of Kuiper satellites in orbit to 153, with a further two launches planned before the end of this year.

Amazon is planning to launch a high-speed, low-latency internet service by the end of the first quarter of 2026, with as few as 1,000 satellites required for global coverage.

We have already discovered more than 6,000 planets outside of our immediate neighborhood. Yet, finding a moon orbiting one of those distant worlds has proved considerably harder. Astronomers may finally have something close to the real deal, but this particular object stretches the word “moon” almost beyond recognition.

Using the European Southern Observatory’s Very Large Telescope in Chile, researchers detected strong evidence for a moon-like object in the CD-35 2722 system. Further observations are still necessary to confirm the discovery, but it could become the first confidently detected natural satellite outside our solar system. There is still one tiny complication though. This moon is apparently massive.
