Now that the Computex craze has died down, we’re finally learning about some of the really interesting products coming from smaller companies that didn’t get to share the spotlight with bigwigs like Acer and Asus. One such company is Taiwan-based Inventec, who showed off its Lyon 7-inch Windows 8.1 tablet at Computex1.

Featuring a 1280 x 800 resolution IPS screen and a 1.66Ghz Bay Trail quad-core processor, this tablet, according to PCWorld, was reportedly displayed during Microsoft’s keynote.

Other internals include 2GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, and there are reports that a 128GB storage option will be offered in the future. Weighing approximately one pound, the tablet features rear- and front-facing cameras, a microSD slot, microHDMI port, and microUSB port. The specs have the device at a very slim 0.43-inches thick. The current prototype includes Windows 8, but it is speculated that the finished product will most likely include Windows 8.1. It should also qualify for a free bundled Microsoft Office 2013 Home and Student edition, since it fits all the prerequisites set by Microsoft’s recent announcement.

The Lyon has one Computex rival so far in the tiny tablet category: the 8-inch Acer Iconia W3 tablet, which is currently the only other “small” Windows 8 device unveiled at this year’s show.

According to Liliputing, the Taiwan-based Inventec makes products for some big name Western PC developers, including Acer, Toshiba, and HP. So, we may not be calling this product the “Inventec” Lyon at launch as the design may be bought by a larger OEM. The finished tablet could also look slightly different and contain different parts closer to its release. No info yet on price, but we have a feeling we may see this little guy in the coming months.
