The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies has a music video sung by a former hobbit

Scottish actor Billy Boyd may be best known for playing the hobbit Peregrin “Pippin” Took in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, but he’s also an accomplished musician whose latest song, “The Last Goodbye,” has been selected to play over the end credits of The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies. The official video for the song has been made available online, and features quite a bit of footage from the upcoming conclusion of The Hobbit trilogy in addition to Boyd’s musical farewell to the world of Middle-earth.

The video was posted to YouTube by WaterTower Music, the Warner Bros. music label that will release the official soundtrack to The Battle Of Five Armies next month ahead of the film’s premiere. The lyrics for the song, which was written and performed by Boyd for the film, are posted online.

Arriving in theaters December 17, The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies brings the big-screen trilogy based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s celebrated novel to an epic conclusion as the mighty dragon Smaug unleashes his fury on the land surrounding Lonely Mountain and the races of dwarves, men, and elves must settle their own differences before dealing with yet another threat from the encroaching darkness. With the diminutive hobbit Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) caught in the middle of all of this danger, the fate of all Middle-Earth may be decided by one of its smallest inhabitants.

Along with Freeman, the film stars Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Evangeline Lilly, Lee Pace, Luke Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch (as the voice of Smaug), Stephen Fry, Cate Blanchett, Ian Holm, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, Orlando Bloom, Sylvester McCoy, and Aidan Turner.
