The Lions will fight on after Netflix OKs second season of 'Last Chance U'

More football is headed to Netflix. The streaming service announced Monday that it has renewed its hard-hitting docuseries Last Chance U for a second season. The show will continue to follow East Mississippi Community College’s unique football program as its players fight to gain the attention they need to further their careers.

The series was inspired by a GQ article on the EMCC Lions that highlighted how the program has given talented and sometimes troubled players a chance at redemption. Current coach Buddy Stephens has seen nine of his players go on to play in the NFL, not to mention many more graduate with scholarships to play at four-year universities. Last Chance U season 2 will look at the next crop of players and their path to potential glory, both as part of the team and on an individual level.

Director Greg Whiteley, who worked on the six-episode first season, will be back for season 2. Netflix’s Lisa Nishimura, vice president of original documentary programming, highlighted his key role in the docuseries in a statement. According to Deadline, she praised how he “genuinely captured both the struggles and triumphs” of the players. She also gave the school itself a nod.

“Coach Buddy Stephens, Academic Adviser Brittany Wagner, and the entire team at EMCC have bravely opened their doors for the filmmakers to capture their real world as it unfolds.” said Nishimur. “We eagerly anticipate having a front row seat as they continue to fight for their dreams in the coming season.”

Netflix tweeted the news, promising that season 2 is coming soon.

At this point, Netflix has not announced a specific season 2 premiere date, so fans will have to settle for assurances that more episodes are on the way.

Massive open air soccer stadium with a game in play.

Juventus and Milan clash in a Top-3 Serie A showdown today at Allianz Stadium. Though the stakes are considerably lower now that Inter have officially claimed this season's Scudetto, this is still a compelling matchup between two of Italy's premier sides.

This one is starting very soon, at 12:00 p.m. ET. It will stream exclusively on Paramount+ in the United States, but we've found a handful of different ways you can watch the match live online for free.

Netflix is streaming the craziest action movie of 2024. Here’s why I loved it
A man floating in air kicks another man in the face in City Hunter.

This month seems to be the time to release action movies that color outside the lines. We've already had Dev Patel's Monkey Man, a messy, throw-everything-at-the-wall action movie that blends intricate fight sequences and on-the-nose social commentary in an entertaining package that will surely gain cult status in the near future. Just this weekend, Boy Kills World dished out loads of cartoon violence and over-the-top gore in a bid for John Wick-level fandom. Both movies bend or break the rules of reality to deliver quickly cut fight scenes that push the boundaries of the genre, all in an attempt to one-up the high standards set by the best movies in the Mission: Impossible and Fast and Furious franchises.

Yet the best of the April bunch is the one that has the lowest profile. City Hunter doesn't star anyone you'd recognize like It actor Bill Skarsgård in Boy Kills World and hasn't been backed by an extensive marketing campaign like Universal's Monkey Man. But the movie is a blast; it's like putting Pop Rocks in a can of Mountain Dew and chasing it down with a couple of Pixy Sticks. It's ludicrous, immature, and totally unrealistic. It's also my favorite action movie of 2024. Here's why you need to stream City Hunter pronto.
It's an adaptation of a massively popular franchise
