Marantz expands its home theater offerings with new flagship receiver, A/V processor

Over the summer, Marantz offered a few updates to its home theater line, but even with CES fast approaching, the company isn’t done expanding its offerings. On Wednesday, the company announced two new flagship home theater products: the SR7011 A/V receiver, and the AV7703 A/V processor, both of which offer wireless multiroom support powered by Denon’s HEOS technology.

The Marantz SR7011 A/V receiver is a 9.2-channel model offering up to 125 watts of power per channel. The receiver also features two preamp outs, allowing for the addition of an external power amplifier to create an 11.2-channel setup. Support for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X is included, with 5.1.4 configurations available out of the box, and up to 7.1.4 configurations with an external two-channel amplifier. Auro-3D is also available via a paid software upgrade.

A total of eight HDMI inputs are available, including one on the front, all of which support HDCP 2.2. It also has 4K/60Hz passthrough, including support for 4:4:4 color, HDR (High Dynamic Range), and BT.2020. Analog to HDMI conversion is featured, including a built-in upscaler allowing for high-definition and even standard-definition sources to be displayed in near-4K quality. A total of three HDMI outputs are available, allowing for the receiver to power displays in multiple zones.

For those who want even more control over their home theater setup, Marantz’s new AV7703 offers the same features as the SR7011 receiver, only without the power amplifier. It is designed to operate as the core of a modular home theater system, allowing for much more flexibility over how components interact. Two 11.2-channel pre-out sections are available, one using unbalanced RCA cables and the other using balanced XLR cables.

As it doesn’t need to worry about power, the AV7703 is able to use higher-quality components for its pre-amp section. This includes a power supply using audiophile-grade ELNA capacitors and a circuit board using Marantz’s HDAM technology. Critical components are extensively shielded to prevent noise and interference.

Both the receiver and A/V processor feature Bluetooth, AirPlay, dual-band Wi-Fi, and Ethernet for connectivity. In addition to HEOS multiroom technology, both include support for a number of streaming services including Spotify Connect, Pandora, SiriusXM, Deezer, Amazon Music, and Tidal. High-resolution audio is supported in standard formats up to 192kHz/24bit, in addition to DSD 5.6 MHz.

Audyssey MultEQ XT32 is included in both units to make setup and room calibration both fast and accurate, with a suite of technologies including LFC, Sub EQ HT, Dynamic Volume, and Dynamic EQ. Both units also work with Marantz’s 2016 AVR Remote App, available for iOS and Android, making adding more remotes as simple as a few taps on your phone.

The SR7011 receiver and the AV7703 A/V processor will be available for sale beginning this month, and both models are priced at $2,200. For more information, see the Marantz website.
