Uber is offering rides from the airport for the princely sum of nothing

The season of goodwill is almost upon us, apparently, and in a bid to spread some Christmas cheer in the coming weeks, Uber is offering free rides.

No, it’s not free rides for everyone and their dog, for such a move would surely be a gift too far even for a company as loaded as Uber.

Instead, the ridesharing service has teamed up with American Express for the six-week deal, offering card members two free rides worth up to $65 a time. OK, there’s some more small print to consider – the ride has to originate at one of 11 major airports listed, namely New York’s LaGuardia and JFK, Newark in New Jersey, Chicago O’Hare, Chicago Midway, Seattle Tacoma, Boston Logan, McCarran in Las Vegas, George Bush in Houston, Ronald Reagan in D.C, and Washington Dulles, also close to D.C.

To make use of the deal, travelers must first ensure their American Express card is linked to their Uber account before selecting it as the payment method for the ride.

Then it’s simply a case of entering the code “amexairport” in the promotions tab of the Uber app. Anyone with the new Uber app can enter the code via the payment tab instead.

The offer runs through December 31, and full details are available at Uber’s website here.

Uber likes to roll out offers like this from time to time. Previously it’s offered free rides to veterans, hotel guests, and even partygoers who’ve knocked back too much booze.

Free ice cream has also played a part in buttering up its users, as have deliveries of cute kittens to riders’ offices, though we’ve no idea how that particular deal worked out for Uber customers. Or the cats.

Save $200 on this Android phone and get free Bose earbuds
Motorola Edge Plus (2023) lying on a bench.

For those who are looking to buy a new Android phone, you may want to go for this offer from Motorola -- the third-generation Motorola Edge Plus for only $600 following a $200 discount on its original price of $800, and it comes with the Bose QuietComfort Earbuds II, which are worth $299, for free. That's unbelievable value that will be tough to get from other phone deals, but you'll have to hurry with your purchase if you want to take advantage of this bargain because there's no telling when it ends.

Why you should buy the Motorola Edge Plus (2023)
We reviewed the third-generation Motorola Edge Plus, released just last year, as a worthy competitor to the Google Pixel 7 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S23. The smartphone features a 6.7-inch curved OLED display with Full HD+ resolution and a 165Hz refresh rate, and it's protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus to prevent scratches from daily wear and tear. The Motorola Edge Plus is also pretty fast with its Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and 8GB of RAM, and while it ships with Android 13, you can upgrade it to the latest Android 14 as soon as you unbox the device.

How one special feature changed my smartphone photos forever
A person holding the OnePlus 12.

I don’t usually mess around with Pro modes in smartphone camera apps much. I’m not a “pro,” so they rarely seem relevant, and the combination of an effective auto mode and a great editing platform usually means I end up with a photo I’m pleased with anyway.

But that all changed when I tried Master Mode on the OnePlus 12. Yes, it’s a Pro mode in disguise, but it has an unusual and quite specific feature set that has helped me create photos I love and furthered my own photographic style far more than most other phones I’ve used recently.
