Looks like Samsung may be going the way of Apple. The company is gearing up to release a glossy black version of the Samsung Galaxy S7, according to a new report from The Investor. The goal of the release will reportedly be to reignite interest in both the Galaxy S7 phone and Samsung as a smartphone maker in general, following the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco.

According to the report, the new color option will launch at some point in December so within the next few weeks, we could see a glossy black Galaxy S7 made available to customers.

This will not be the only black variant of the Galaxy S7 — the device is already available in Black Onyx, but Black Onyx is somewhat of a matte finish. The so-called glossy black finish won’t be matte at all, but will instead by quite shiny, like the Jet Black offering on the iPhone 7. There is a drawback to that finish on the iPhone — it is very prone to scratches and dents.

It is also not known where the new finish will be available. It is certainly a possibility that the glossy black option will only be available in Samsung’s home country South Korea, however, it would be nice to see it available elsewhere. Considering Samsung has taken a similar approach by offering the Galaxy S7 Edge in Blue Coral and has released that variant around the globe, there is a precedent for a global release of the new glossy black Galaxy S7.

According to the report from The Investor, since releasing the Coral Blue Galaxy S7 Edge on November 11, Samsung has been releasing an average of 15,000 units per day, so it is possible the company could achieve the same thing with the glossy black Galaxy S7.

Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro is what we consider one of the best iPhones that you can buy right now. But if you’re in the market for a new phone, you should know there are other options, too. You don’t necessarily need the latest and greatest from Apple, especially if you’re not truly vested in its ecosystem.
