Try quitting it and reopening it, Jack
You know that terrible feeling you get when you lock your keys in your car, or in your house? Yeah, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey knows that feeling, too. In what has to be one of the more ironic tech micro-tragedies, Dorsey’s Twitter account was suspended Tuesday.
After what must have been some yelling down the halls at Twitter HQ, Dorsey was able to get the account back online, and posted up a copy of his very first tweet from 2006, albeit with a small edit saying the suspension was an “internal mistake.”
What price access?
Facebook is getting some heat after they apparently developed a censorship tool for use by governments that like to control what people might see… on Facebook.
But analysts –and critics – think CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who has learned to speak Mandarin and is reportedly on good terms with Chinese president Xi JinPing, likely signed off on development of the content monitoring tool to help re-enter the Chinese social media market, where Facebook has been banned since 2009. The New York times says the tool is not operated by Facebook, but is instead wielded by whatever government it’s handed over to.
Back in July, when Zuckerberg faced criticism over the possibility of creating just such a censorship tool, he said that while he didn’t want to do it, he did want Facebook to at least get a toehold in the 1.4 billion person Chinese market, even if that meant having to tolerate some form of censorship. Time will tell if it’s enough for the Chinese overlords to allow Facebook back inside the great firewall.
