Pani’s smart home water monitor is the Fitbit of water usage

Pani, a company focused on smart home water technology, announced the new Pani Smart Water Monitor on Wednesday, October 23. This water monitor is a smart device that attaches to a faucet, shower, or toilet. Then, it records water usage, checks for leaks, and sends real-time reports to an app. While many water monitoring devices monitor water running through your whole house, this one can target how much water is used in one particular area.

“Our mission is to help every home around the world have access to safe, clean water. To do this, we need to first generate awareness of how we use water,” Pani founder and CEO Allen Tsai said in a press release. “Our research shows that 53% of smart home gadget owners are looking for products to help them better understand their utilities, but only 3% of them own any gadgets in this category. Pani’s Smart Water Monitor offers consumers an easy, self-installation product with real-time monitoring for all fixtures — it’s the Nest or Fitbit of water usage. ”

The company emphasizes that the new monitor is affordable and easy to install. Plus, it can save you money, too.  “Pani costs 80 percent less than most competitors and it can be installed in minutes without professional help,” Scott Shumate, vice president of engineering, said in a press release. “Through our Pani mobile app, one of our customers was alerted of a toilet flap leak within minutes. Another user was able to identify that her showerhead utilized vastly more water than advertised at 2.3 gallons per minute, averaging more than 35 gallons of water per shower.”

Maybe a more impressive trait of the Pani Smart Water Monitor is that it learns your water habits. Then the device offers tips on how to save water through its app, which can be downloaded on Android and iOS devices.

Pani’s smart water monitor is now available at Amazon and on the Pani website and the retail price has been discounted for the holiday season to $70 for one, or $120 for a starter pack of two. If you’re not sure about how many Pani Smart Water Monitors you may need in your home, Pani has an estimator tool that can come up with a number based on your home’s square footage, the number of appliances in your home, and household size.
