The Mandalorian season 2 won’t be delayed, Disney confirms

Disney CEO Bob Chapek has confirmed that the highly anticipated second season of The Mandalorian will not be delayed.

Chapek, who also discussed Disney’s reopening strategy in an interview with CNBC’s Julia Boorstin, revealed that only movies and shows that were in the middle of filming have been affected by the lockdowns due to the coronavirus outbreak. Preproduction and postproduction, meanwhile, can still take place

“The Mandalorian was shot before COVID really hit, and so we’ve been in postproduction, and there will be no delay on Mandalorian,” Chapek told Boorstin.

There were concerns that the COVID-19 pandemic will push back the release of the second season of The Mandalorian. However, with Chapek’s confirmation, fans can expect the series to resume on Disney+ in October.

The hype for the second season of The Mandalorian, with Pedro Pascal in the titular role, is partly driven by news that fan favorites Ahsoka Tano and Boba Fett — to be played by Rosario Dawson and Temuera Morrison, respectively — will appear in the Disney+ series.

Disney, meanwhile, is said to already be working on the third season of the show.

Combined Disney+/Hulu app to launch in beta in December

It's finally happening. After months of rumors, followed by an actual announcement, a combined app with content from Disney+ and Hulu will launch in beta status in December 2023, ahead of an official launch in the spring.

And, well, that's really all we have at the moment. Disney CEO Bob Iger dropped the news on the company's fiscal fourth-quarter earnings call on November 8. (The company ends its fiscal year on September 30.)

Disney+ and Hulu drop first trailer for Marvel’s Echo

Among the upcoming Marvel Studios original series, Echo has been one of the question marks because its leading character, Maya Lopez, is not a headlining heroine in Marvel's comics. However, the first trailer for Echo has been released by Disney+ and Hulu (which will both stream the series), and the first footage goes a long way towards winning us over by heavily leaning into the show's TV-MA rating. Especially when Maya's former guardian, Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio), brutally beats a man as Maya looks on.

Bringing back the original Avengers won’t save the MCU

It’s no secret in Hollywood that Marvel Studios is facing some serious issues that are now playing out in a very public way. Although the challenges Marvel has to deal with pale in comparison to the ones that the recently reorganized DC Studios will have to work through, the world’s biggest superhero movie studio simply isn’t the powerhouse that it used to be.

Earlier this week, Variety laid out many of Marvel’s current challenges in great detail, as well as a few plans to reignite the franchise. The report even indicates that there have been discussions about bringing back all of the original Avengers stars for a new sequel. Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk never really left the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye was semi-retired even before Renner’s life-threatening accident earlier this year. However, Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), and Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) were already written out in Avengers: Endgame. Cap got to live out his life in the past, but Iron Man and Black Widow both died on-screen.
