If you like loot and laughter and you haven’t played Hothead Games’ DeathSpank then you are doing yourself a grave disservice. The action role-playing game is available for both high def consoles as well as Windows and Mac OS X. In other words, unless you restrict your gaming to Nintendo and mobile products, you have a way to play. Along with being a great game, DeathSpank also effectively demonstrates why it’s so great to hear that Hothead is now working with the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy license.

The press release unfortunately doesn’t really specify exactly what Hothead’s new project entails. It states the that the developer is working with Megadodo Publications — the fictional publisher of the actual book The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy in creator Douglas Adams’ universe — to create a “new edition of The Guide.” Taken literally, that could mean some sort of funny, interactive mobile app. Or it could just be clever PRspeak written to mimic Adams’ dry style of humor. The translation being, “We’re making a new Hitchhiker’s game, but we’re going to immerse this press release in the fiction of that universe.”

There’s a website up for The New Hitchhiker’s Guide which is also completely non-revealing. A message on the page states that the guide’s content has been updated “to provide compatibility with such quaint locations as Earth.” The message also notes that this updated Guide “will soon be available for all the latest primitive digital devices on your planet, including”… and that’s where it stops. The message doesn’t actually end there, but a poorly positioned Post-It note blocks the rest. Jerks.

Maybe this really will be some kind of interactive book download. It’s going to be tough to top the original game based on Adams’ novel, a classic text adventure from Infocom. Maybe Hothead should just port that to everything under the sun and call it a day.

Gaming against AI could make you more confident with real teammates
Turns out getting beaten by bots wasn't the worst thing after all

Artificial intelligence is often blamed for making people less social. Whether it's AI replacing conversations, reducing teamwork, or making gaming feel less human, the narrative has largely remained the same. But a new study suggests the opposite could also be true. In fact, AI might be quietly encouraging people to spend more time with their friends.

Researchers studying PUBG: Battlegrounds have found that introducing AI-controlled opponents into multiplayer matches didn't isolate players. Instead, it made them more confident, kept them playing longer, and even encouraged them to squad up with friends more often. The findings, which will appear in the journal Information Systems Research, offer an interesting perspective on how AI can improve user experiences rather than simply automating them.

Sony is preparing to close the PlayStation Store on PS3, ending new purchases globally by July 2027. Less than two weeks after that announcement, the team behind RPCS3 revealed a very different milestone.

The open-source PS3 emulator now lists 75% of the console’s tracked library as playable on PC. That covers 2,681 of 3,559 games, and the rating means they can be completed with acceptable performance and no game-breaking glitches.

Nobody wants to wait for Grand Theft Auto VI on PC. With Rockstar still promising only PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions for November 19, a sudden burst of PS5-emulation progress has naturally attracted plenty of attention.

Two open-source projects, KytyPS5 and SharpEmu, can now boot genuine commercial PS5 software on computers. Both remain extremely experimental, so anyone picturing GTA VI running on a gaming laptop this November should lower their expectations considerably.
