Marvel Studios didn’t have a big presence at this year’s Comic-Con in San Diego, but that doesn’t mean they were entirely absent from the annual pop-culture event.
Over the four-day show, Marvel unveiled a series of promo art posters for The Avengers, next year’s superhero team-up extravaganza that puts Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, and Thor on the same screen (along with Nick Fury, Hawkeye, Black Widow, and a host of other returning characters). The last promo poster was released Sunday evening, revealing the new look for Hulk, Marvel’s smash-happy green goliath.
Along with offering fans a good indication of what each of the Avengers characters will look like when they return to the screen in 2012, the posters also combined to form a pretty amazing banner image that showcases each of the major characters returning for the film. The banner also reveals the first look at the massive S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier, and the “Quinjets” the heroes will use to get from one mission to the next.
From left to right, the banner image features Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow (with the Quinjet in the background), Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk, Chris Evans as Captain America (with his new, modern-era costume), Chris Hemsworth as Thor, and Jeremy Renner a Hawkeye. On the far right, there’s the S.H.I.E.L.D. trio of Sam Jackson as Nick Fury, Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson, and Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill. The S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier can be seen in the background.
