This external SSD holds my Steam library, and it’s half-off for Prime Day

I jump around PCs a lot, so I’m not thrilled when I have to wait hours to re-download all the games in my Steam library that I want to play. Instead, I use external hard drives: a 1TB Samsung T7 and a 2TB SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD, and the latter is on sale for nearly half off during Prime Day this year.

The SanDisk Extreme Portable is an external SSD that I use to transfer my Steam library between PCs. The 2TB model I use has a list price of $460, but it usually sells for less than that — between $300 and $350 over the past year. During Prime Day, though, it’s selling for much less: .

SanDisk has four capacities available, but I’d recommend the 1TB or 2TB model because they both have around a 50% discount. The 4TB and 500GB models aren’t as good of a deal with only about a 30% discount. The 1TB or 2TB size should be plenty for your Steam library, too. It’s certainly enough for mine.

I don’t have every game in my Steam library installed, but the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD holds everything that matters. It’s dead simple to transfer an external SSD between PCs, too. Just head into your Steam settings, select Downloads, and select the drive as a Steam library folder. All of your games will pop in right away.

You can find other external hard drives on Prime Day for less, but you really want an external SSD for gaming — and the SanDisk Extreme Portable is among the best external hard drives you can buy. The one I use has speeds of up to 1,050 MB/s over a USB-C connection, which is more than enough for games.

If you’re a speed chaser, the 2TB SanDisk Extreme Pro is on sale, as well. This model is $280 with a 45% discount, and it goes up to speeds of 2,000 MB/s. You don’t need that much for most games, but if you want to kill loading screens, that’s an option as well.

Outside of the speed, the SanDisk Extreme Portable is a great travel SSD. It has IP55 dust and water resistance, and it can take a drop of up to 6 feet. It’s not quite as protcted as the Samsung T7 Shield, but it has enough protection to keep your Steam library safe while you’re traveling. And if you have some extra space where you want to store your files, you can encrypt it with AES-256 behind a password.

I mainly use the SanDisk Extreme Portable to transfer games between my desktop and my laptop, but you can use it elsewhere, too. It works with the PlayStation 5 through the USB-C connection, for example, and I’m interested in throwing some Velcro on the back so I can mount it to the Steam Deck.

It's unclear how long the deal will last though, so if you want to buy this portable projector, you don't have time to waste.

The Anker Nebula Capsule projector may look like a humble can of soda, but it's an amazing little device with a rating of 4.4 out of 5 stars on Amazon. This Netgear Mesh Wi-Fi System is 51% off for Prime Day
Today's Best Mesh Wi-Fi Prime Day Deal
netgear orbi family expands rbk30 rbk40

Amazon now has a sequel to its Prime Day event, which was held in July this year, in the form of its Prime Early Access Sale. This event, running on October 11 and 12, sees deals across the Amazon store on everything from electronics to home goods, and it's the perfect chance to pick up some extras to make your home tech-ready for the winter. One upgrade that can really improve your quality of life, especially if you work from home or have a larger house, is setting up a mesh network. If you're fed up with your Wi-Fi dropping out or having dead spots in your home, then a mesh network system can help. And now you can score a great deal on the Netgear Orbi Mesh Wi-Fi System, which is less than half price at $99, down from $200.

Why you should buy the Netgear Orbi Mesh Wi-Fi System
If you've been browsing mesh router reviews and best-ofs, then you're probably familiar with the RBK13's older sibling, the Netgear Orbi RBK50, especially given its striking design. Of course, the Orbi RBK50 is pretty expensive, which is why Netgear released the Orbi RBK13, a much more affordable version of the home mesh system that removes some features in exchange for the lower price. The main difference is that the RBK50 is tri-band while the RBK13 is dual-band, a 2.4GHz one and a 5GHz band with a combined theoretical maximum of 1.2Gbps speed. It also means that the dedicated backchannel has been removed, and while that may affect performance slightly, you probably won't notice the difference unless your internet speeds are pushing past 300Mbps, which most folks aren't, so this is a great mesh Wi-Fi Prime Day deal if you fit the bill.

This Roborock robot vacuum and mop is 44% off for Prime Day
Roborock E5 robot vacuum and mop uses smart navigation to avoid obstacles.

If you missed the Prime Day sales in July, Amazon has given you a second chance with the Prime Early Access Sale.  We're also calling it Prime Day October 2022 because there are plenty of excellent Prime Day deals available to help you save on products you need today or to snag good deals for early holiday shopping. One of the best smart home deals we've seen in the current two-day sales event is for the Roborock E5 Robot Vacuum and Mop. If you're in the market for a dual-purpose automated vacuum and mopping assistant with advanced navigation and mapping, Amazon slashed the price by 44% on this highly-rated combo. Instead of the regular $360 price, you can buy the Roborock E5 for just $200, saving $160 to use for other items on your list.

Why you should buy the Roborock E5 robot vacuum
Since the first Amazon Prime Day in 2015, the mega sales events have always included tempting Prime Day robot vacuum deals. Roborock has been one of the leading brands in smart home robotic floor cleaners and is no stranger to the lists of the best robot vacuums as well as some of the top deals during Prime Day. Power is definitely a major theme with the E5.  Rated for both carpeting and hard floor surfaces, the Wi-Fi-connected Roborock E5 is ready for hard work with a 2500PA suction vacuum force -- way above the required minimum 500 to 600PA force for entry-level robot vacuums. That extra power pulls dirt and debris from deep in your carpets and lifts the same from hard floor surfaces when mopping. The combo cleaner's battery is rated to run up to 200 minutes and vacuum up to 2,152 square feet on a single charge. If you simultaneous vacuum and mop floors, the Roborock multifunction robot can clean up to 1,600 square feet before it takes itself back to the docking station to automatically recharge.
