Sega‘s beloved blue mascot, Sonic the Hedgehog, may have hit some bumps in the road in recent years, but his upcoming time-twisting adventure in Sonic Generations is looking like a running spin-jump back in the right direction. We knew the game would be coming this holiday season, and now a release date has been confirmed: November 1.

The whole idea behind the timeplay in Generations‘ story is to give players a sort of series retrospective. Sonic’s travels will take him through many of the environments seen in previous releases, with 2D and 3D play mode versions of each level you visit. All manner of familiar characters and enemies will be encountered along the way, though Sega has been keeping the particulars of the story under wraps.

Generations arrives at a difficult moment in the holiday release calendar, square in the middle of the knockout brawl between Battlefield 3, out October 25, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, out November 9. A Sonic game is obviously not anything like a first-person shooter, but it’s still going to be a challenging moment to try to capture the attention of the gaming public. That said, a holiday season filled with good games is never a bad thing. All reports so far peg Sonic Generations as one of the good ones, so be excited.

Key art for Mortal Kombat 1 shows Liu Kang.

Are you ready to test your might? After a small leak and a couple of teases on Twitter, Mortal Kombat 1 has been confirmed to be the next entry in the best-selling fighting game series of all time. Developer NetherRealm typically alternates between franchises, so many people expected their next project to be a new Injustice since Mortal Kombat 11 was their last release in 2019. That is evidently not the plan, but this also isn't the Mortal Kombat 12 that would logically follow. The series already saw something of a reboot with Mortal Kombat 9, so what's going on with Mortal Kombat 1? Choose your fighter and memorize your fatality button inputs, because we're breaking down all the gory details of Mortal Kombat 1.
Release date

Mortal Kombat 1 will be ready for kombat on September 19, 2023. However, there will also be an early access period for those who purchase either the Premium or Kollector's Edition of the game. This early access will begin on September 14 at 10 a.m. PT.
Platforms
This fighter is ditching last-gen consoles and will launch on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and, most surprisingly, Nintendo Switch.
