Shanghai Motor Show preview: Lamborghini LP720-4 50 Anniversario Edition boasts 710 hp

As part of its 50th Anniversary celebration, Lamborghini will bring a suped-up Aventador to the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show. The Aventador LP720-4 50 Anniversario Edition might not have the most elegant name, but it will bring new meaning to the term “raging bull.”

The 50th Anniversary Aventador will have 710 horsepower, up from the regular version’s 691 hp. That’s 720 metric horses, which explains the LP720-4 designation. That power will come from a tweaked version of Lamborghini’s 6.5-liter V12.

Leaked photos from Carscoops show an arresting shade of yellow called Giallo Maggio, and an equally aggressive carbon fiber body kit. The latter reportedly makes the 50 Anniversario Edition 50 percent more aerodynamic than a stock Aventador.

It should also help keep the car on the ground as it accelerates to insane velocities. The 50 Anniversario Edition will reportedly do 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 kph) in 2.9 seconds, and reach a top speed of 217 mph.

Official details will be released at the car’s Shanghai debut, but Lamborghini is reportedly limiting 50 Anniversario production to just 100 units, making for a very rare version of an already exotic supercar.

Does a 710-horsepower Lamborghini make a good birthday present? Tell us in the comments.

Rivian has finally unveiled the R2, its long-awaited attempt at a more affordable electric SUV. The new vehicle may not be available just yet, but fans of Rivian's design aesthetics and feature set are already looking forward to being able to order the new car. Let's get this out of the way right now: The R1S is most likely going to be a better vehicle than the R2. Rivian isn't replacing the R1S with the R2 — it's releasing the R2 as a more affordable alternative, and there will be some compromises when buying the R2 over the R1S.

2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N drifting.

We’re finally getting to the fun part of automakers’ methodical quest to replicate their lineups with electric cars.

Performance versions of ordinary cars have been a staple of the auto industry for decades. But while we’ve already seen some variants of EVs boasting more power and more impressive stats — think Tesla Model S Plaid or Lucid Air Sapphire — the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is the first to truly apply that format to an EV.
