What you see above are the patent filings by Jaguar for what appears to be an F-Type coupe.

Although we assumed something like this had to be in the works, we had immediately envisioned a shooting brake F-Type instead. Short of that, however, a raked rear-end coupe will do just fine.

The F-Type hardtop will undoubtedly feature the two engines that its drop-top brother feature: a supercharged 3.0 V6 or a supercharged 5.0 V8. Rumors have it, though, that the coupe version could receive an entry-level 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine capable of 240 horsepower, according to German automotive website Auto Motor Und Sport.

While that sounds plausible, we wonder if it really is. When we spoke candidly with the Jaguar engineers at the F-Type launch in Spain, we grilled them on why they chose superchargers over turbos. The answer was simple: while superchargers draw some horsepower just to operate unlike turbos, the power delivery from superchargers is virtually immediate. For the engineers, a Jag sports car without immediate throttle response was unthinkable.

So could Jaguar have a turbo’d F-Type coupe? Sure. Do we think they will? Probably not. We’re hedging our bet on a supercharged inline four.

Regardless of forced induction systems, we now have a bigger worry on our minds: Which car will we lie in bed at night thinking of: the Coupe or the Convertible?

Tell us in comments: what would you rather have, the F-Type Coupe or Convertible?

2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N drifting.

We’re finally getting to the fun part of automakers’ methodical quest to replicate their lineups with electric cars.

Performance versions of ordinary cars have been a staple of the auto industry for decades. But while we’ve already seen some variants of EVs boasting more power and more impressive stats — think Tesla Model S Plaid or Lucid Air Sapphire — the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is the first to truly apply that format to an EV.
