Chrome and carbon fiber too plebeian? Check out the silver-coated BMW 760Li Sterling

If you’re looking for a car with a sterling reputation, BMW has just the thing.

BMW Individual Manufaktur, a special division of the German carmaker that builds one-off customized vehicles, has teamed with the silversmiths at Robbe & Berking to create the 760Li Sterling edition.

This special 7 Series is literally covered in silver. Everything from the twin-kidney grille and exterior badges to the interior trim is hand-made silver. It’s perfect for those who think chrome and carbon fiber are too plebeian.

If you see a big BMW manically swerving, the driver isn’t drunk or texting. He or she is just trying to avoid bugs and bird poop from tarnishing his silver Bimmer.

From what we can see in BMW’s press photos, the change from chrome to silver is actually rather subtle. That’s important if 760Li owners ever plan on taking their cars to urban areas.

The Sterling edition also gets an exclusive dark grey paint color and brown leather interior, which highlight the silver accents nicely.

Besides having the world’s most expensive trunk lid badge, the Sterling appears identical to the regular 760Li. That means it has a 6.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V12 under its copious hood with 535 horsepower and 550 pound-feet of torque.

In addition to Robbe & Berking, BMW has collaborated with watchmaker Girard Perregaux and piano manufacturer Steinway & Sons on special-edition models.

No word on whether the 760Li Sterling will be available in the U.S.

The front three-quarter view of a 2022 Rivian against a rocky backdrop.

Rivian has finally unveiled the R2, its long-awaited attempt at a more affordable electric SUV. The new vehicle may not be available just yet, but fans of Rivian's design aesthetics and feature set are already looking forward to being able to order the new car. The R2 is targeted at being a more affordable take on the electric SUV and will sit alongside the flagship-tier R1S.

Let's get this out of the way right now: The R1S is most likely going to be a better vehicle than the R2. Rivian isn't replacing the R1S with the R2 — it's releasing the R2 as a more affordable alternative, and there will be some compromises when buying the R2 over the R1S.

2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N drifting.

We’re finally getting to the fun part of automakers’ methodical quest to replicate their lineups with electric cars.

Performance versions of ordinary cars have been a staple of the auto industry for decades. But while we’ve already seen some variants of EVs boasting more power and more impressive stats — think Tesla Model S Plaid or Lucid Air Sapphire — the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is the first to truly apply that format to an EV.
