Gefen Adds HDMI Adapters

Gefen last week announced two new adapters which are designed to link DVI and digital audio and component sources to HDMI displays. The new DVI Audio to HDMI Adapter and Component Audio to HDMI Adapter are priced at $299 and $199 respectively and should be available shortly.

The DVI Audio to HDMI Adapter, said Gefen, allows one to send HD video to a display with digital audio in TOSlink and S/PDIF formats. It comes equipped with one DVI, one TOSlink and one S/PDIF input. The Component Audio to HDMI Adapter, meanwhile, connects component sources or VGA computers to an HDMI display, bringing HD video together with two channels of audio (left and right) to the display.

Both Adapters are also HDCP pass-through compliant so protected content can be seen with no viewing issues.

When setting up a new TV or soundbar, you'll need to get your hands on a variety of different cables. Most folks will simply use whatever old HDMI cable is sitting around their home, as most TVs are compatible with the hardware. But if you're setting up a decent sound system with your TV, you'll probably read something about HDMI ARC and eARC ports in the owner's manual.

Spotify adds a paid audiobook option to its free tier

Spotify today announced an option that brings audiobooks to the free tier -- for a price. Dubbed the Audiobooks Access tier, it'll get you 15 hours of listening from more than 200,000 books for $10 a month, without having to also pay for Spotify Premium.

And, well, that's it. Spotify says that since it started offering audiobooks as part of the Premium subscription, it's seen a 45% increase in free users both searching for and interacting with audiobook content on a daily basis.
