Wanting to get its foot in the door of this week’s anticipated avalanche of digital photograhy announcements (it is photokina, after all) Kodak has trotted out its new EasyShare710 Zoom digital camera. The 7.1 megapixel shooter will sport a mammoth 10× optical zoom, although it lacks either electronic or mechanical image stabilization technology, so if you want to use that zoom you’d better have a tripod and pray for calm weather. The unit also features 1 2-inch LCD viewfinder display, 32 MB of internal memory and expansion storage via SD/MMC memory cards, ISO sensitivity up to 400 (through it’ll creak to 800 at a 1.9 megapixel resolution), 18 scene and 3 color modes, QuickTime video capture (VGA at 10.5 fps, QVGA at 20 fps), USB 2.0, and AV output via NTSC or PAL.
Expect the EasyShare Z710 to be available in early October at an aggressive $299.95 suggested retail price.
