Vine, everybody’s favorite six-second video-sharing app, is about to attract lots of new users to its platform thanks to an iOS and Android update Thursday adding support for 19 languages, among them French, German, Japanese, and Chinese.
Here’s the full list:
Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Norwegian, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Thai, and Turkish.
Vine for Android is also available in two additional languages, Filipino and Polish.
“Now, it’s even easier for people around the world to watch and share posts that make us laugh, teach us something new or help us find out what’s happening in the world,” Vine co-founder Colin Kroll said in a blog post announcing the new languages.

Kroll added that the app’s developers are currently looking at ways to highlight trending videos according to country, so expect that as an update in the not-too-distant future.
Since Twitter-owned Vine launched on iOS in January this year, the team behind it has been rolling out new features and various tweaks on a regular basis, with a total of 21 updates issued up to now.
The start-up, which was founded in June 2012 before being acquired by Twitter four months later, announced a user base of 40 million in August this year, marking a significant jump from the 13 million it reported two months before that. Its user base was pumped up thanks in part to the launch of an Android version in June, while a Windows Phone version landed just last week.
Although various start-ups are continuing to enter the short-video app space, Vine’s main competition is considered to come from Instagram, which added functionality for 15-second videos in June this year, likely in direct response to Vine’s growing popularity.
Instagram, which launched in 2010 as a photo-sharing app, is believed to have around 150 million users.
