Microsoft Bundles Games with Xbox 360

To promote its Xbox 360 gaming console over the upcoming end-of-year holiday buying season, Microsoft has announced it will be bundling two games with Xbox 360 and Xbox 360 Elite consoles: Forza Motorsport 2 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance. The bundled consoles are expected to reach retail channels by the end of October; the Xbox 360 price will remain at $349.99, while the Xbox 360 Elite price will stay at $449.99. According to Microsoft, the game bundle equates to a retail value of $90.

The announcement comes shortly after Microsoft lowered prices on its Xbox 360 consoles, and right on the heels of its mammoth launch of Halo 3, widely viewed as the most-anticipated title for the platform. The bundle is almost certainly intended to sweeten the appeal of the Xbox 360, which will soon be entering its third year of availability (making it the oldest of the so-called “next generation” consoles). The Xbox 360 will also face increased competition from Sony as that company tries to increase the appeal of its so-far floundering PlayStation 3, as well as from the runaway success of the lower-powered (and lower-priced) Nintendo Wii.

Sony’s 720Hz tandem WOLED gaming monitor is finally available worldwide

Sony’s ultra-fast OLED gaming monitor has finally made its way to store shelves. A few months after announcing the INZONE M10S II, the company has started shipping the esports-focused monitor across major global markets. Buyers in the US can purchase the monitor for $1,099.99. It costs £1,199 in the UK, while customers in supported Eurozone markets will have to fork out €1,349.

It uses a QHD Tandem WOLED panel that runs at a native 540Hz refresh rate. The monitor also has a 0.02ms response time and Sony’s Motion Blur Reduction technology. Sony worked with esports organization Fnatic on a separate competitive mode that trades resolution and usable screen size for an even higher refresh rate. (via Notebookcheck)

LG’s insanely fast UltraGear 25G590B finally has a price and a US release date. The 24.5-inch esports monitor is now available to preorder exclusively from LG for $999.99, with free expedited shipping scheduled to begin on September 1.

The headline feature is a native 1,000Hz refresh rate at 1920 x 1080, making it the first Full HD gaming monitor to reach that speed without dropping to a lower resolution. The screen can update up to 1,000 times per second, or once every millisecond. LG also lets users overclock it to 1,100Hz.

Sony just hit the final nail in the coffin for physical game discs for PlayStation. Despite the month-long backlash from its fans, the company has confirmed that it is still going ahead with its controversial decision. Sony CFO Lin Tao addressed the criticism during the company’s latest earnings briefing, confirming that Sony plans to proceed with its decision to end physical disc production for new PlayStation releases beginning in January 2028.

Tao acknowledged that players have strong opinions about physical media, while saying Sony spent considerable time evaluating the decision before reaching its conclusion. But at the end of the day, the message was still the same.
